Sony not killing Connect after all, just Connect jobs
Those rumors of Connect's demise were apparently greatly exaggerated -- Sony today confirmed that while the company is in fact trimming some 20 jobs at the fledging download service, it intends to keep the servers running. The company is still planning on shifting resources and attention to the Playstation Network, however, so we'll see how long this stay of execution lasts for Connect -- Sony Reader downloads alone aren't going to keep it alive, after all.

I've got a sony network walkman.. when i upgraded the software (sonic stage) .. i had to freakin' delete all the freakin' music from my players hard drive before the software would let me connect with player and upload new music.
Freakin' lame...

if the sorry ass program that is connect goes under they better fucking open up the reader to other ebook vendors. Sony is too big a company to feel okay with fucking over early adopters like that. If you're not going to provide books then liscence the format to other ebook vendors.

Tyk, if you like Sony but hate SonicStage:

But there really are many products out there that allow native drag-n-drop, don't require proprietary software to get music on the device (or off it), do more, etc..

And while I absolutely love my Sony PRS-500, if the Sony Connect bookstore goes bye-bye, I don't have many options for getting ebooks. Stupid Sony proprietary DRM'ed ebook format -- they could have just licensed the Acrobat DRM format, but nooooooo.
If the Sony e-book store bites it..and they don't provide some sort of graceful transfer to another service (like amazon, mobipocket, fictionwise, ebook.com, etc), not only will I never buy another stinkin' Sony product (other the rest of my 800+ member family), but I'll do my best to harass Sony corporate every chance I get.
