Acer / ECS looking to pick up Shuttle?
While this one may seem a tad out of left field, rumors are swirling that either Acer or Elitegroup Computer Systems could be fixing to pick Shuttle up if it decides to sell itself. According to an admittedly brief writeup at DigiTimes, ECS reportedly has a "good relationship with Shuttle," and is being named "by market sources as one of two potential buyers" with Acer being the second. Interestingly, "sources" at ECS purportedly insinuated that there "was no need to acquire Shuttle" in order to meet its strategic goals, and while spokespeople for Acer were tightlipped, it wouldn't be too far-fetched for the partnership-happy firm to ink yet another deal.

NO!!!!! i'd be pissed if shuttle went proprietary! i like my shuttle.. i like bein able to buy unique barebones computers... assholes.
Shuttle makes some of the best machines I have used, and the name Acer still gives me goosebumps after dealing with all the problems their machines had. I certainly hope this does not come true. It's terrible when good companies get swallowed up by bad ones; I already have plenty of options if I want to throw my money away on crap, so there's really no need to take another company over to the bargain bin market.
ive always wanted to build a shuttle pc of my own. just havent done it yet. at least theyll still be around, and not belly-up.
Shuttle is going down!!! :) First I would like to say congrats to Shuttle management!! Especially to M. Wu, C. Wu and J. Wang. To any potential purchaser, let them go bankrupt so you don't overpay for the company like their customers overpaid for their crappy SFF computers. Shuttle tried to be like Apple and sell overpriced PCs. Those of you that think Shuttle makes the best machines, you must be accustom to very low quality. Even eMachines are far superior! Shuttle computers are total crap! And, if you had the pleasure to call Shuttle Tech Support or Customer Service you'd quickly realize the company is absolutely horrible and run by non-assimilating FOBs. Again, congrats to Shuttle management and good luck getting working visas.
Oh Gods please - not ECS. They make utter crap. I've had every single motherboard and BookPC I've bought from them die.
I love Shuttle's products - I'd rather they stay independend but of the two, I hope Acer gets them.
Acer is a company that is slowly making a name for itself. It has recently surprassed Lenovo as the third largest PC Maker in the world. Acer's resource could help Shuttle reach higher.
