ELP Declicker cleans up your vinyl
We know how annoying it is when you're trying to bounce all of your old Rush LPs to FLAC (you know, so you can jam to Moving Pictures on the go), and your files are filled with ugly surface noise. Well, ELP (the company, not Emerson, Lake, and Palmer) feels your pain -- and it wants to help. For the low, low price of $2500 you can supposedly rid your music of pops and clicks (but not hiss, strangely) with the turn of a knob. Of course, there are much cheaper software options for this sort of thing, and you can't use it on 78s, but you probably won't be worried about that once you hear how good Tom Sawyer sounds.

Or you can just use a record ripping service such as www.recordrip.com it's much cheaper and will also get rid of hissing. They will also burn it to a CD and scan album artwork for you.
yeah, check out their laser turntable...

starts at $9,000 US
up to $14,000 if you want the ability to play back various record sizes.
not to mention you have to buy the record cleaner ($500) and de-clicker ($2,500) separately.
The sad thing was I was looking at this product last week for work.
it sounds decent but it is a bit expensive for what we do and it requires fairly clean records to function well. Unfortunately we don't have the volume of vinyl work to make it a worthwhile investment regardless.
Ehhh you can easily spend 100k on a record player alone. Audiophiles are crazy and usally very rich (or just willing to blow everthing they have on it).
My God. First, Engadget refers to Marylin McCoo and Solid Gold. Now, Engadget needs to make sure that we're not talking about Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. AND I UNDERSTAND BOTH REFERENCES!!!
I'm really feeling old now. :(
I would buy it just for the name - I have almost every ELP record on LP now, and what would be better to convert them than this?
..or maybe I'll get something cheaper, and spend the money saved on some Rush tickets.
Or you could have just bought the Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs gold cd version of Moving Pictures when it came out.
Hiss isn't surface noise, it's part of the recording... and not because you're listening to vinyl, but because the recording was made on magnetic tape.
Hell yeah Rush! I have tickets for their concert in July, they rule. I'm 25 and i love em.
Best album - Counterparts, 1993
The ELP declicker has been around for many many years now; Engadget, I am glad to see that you have finally caught up with the year 2001.
