Fujitsu's 12.1-inch T8140 tablet with SSD: 3.3-pounds, 11.3-hours
So you liked the looks of Fujitsu's tiny T4220 12.1-inch convertible tablet, right? Only that 3 hours off battery was a deal breaker. No worries, meet the smaller, lighter, and more efficient Lifebook T8140. We're talking an Intel 1.06GHz U7500 Core 2 Duo ULV processor and 32GB SSD (yes, Solid State Disk) packed into a chassis measuring 1.3-inches / 3.3-pounds and capable of operating at up to 11.3 hours off long-haul battery. Hell, it'll even go 7.2-hours off standard battery if weight is your biggest concern, sissy. All that and still packing a 12.1-inch, 1,280 x 800 resolution. Toss in Vista for suits and 1GB DDR2 memory and you're looking at ¥265,000 (about $2,650) when these pop in Japan sometime late July.

Y'know, I don't usually break this out, but 11.3 hours of battery life? That's enough to make Joey Lawrence go, "Whoa!"

I want this so badly!

32GB drive and 1GB memory are a b it skimpy, and the price is a bit high, but I like the direction tablets are heading.

what happened to that new mass produced 64gb ssd. Is their an option 2 order that with this lappy. I was considering the Sony VGN-TXN15P/B it's long on battery life, but its 1.2-GHz Core Solo U1400 CPU gives it less power than other units and its not a tablet. this lifebook fixed both these issues but 32 gb just aint enough. WHo am i kidding id still get it this thing looks amazing. I'm only left wondering if it has an optical drive built in like the even lighter sony.

Well, it's 11.3 hours of claimed battery life, which usually means 11.3 hours of the unit just idling with the screen dimmed, Wifi off and the planets aligned. A real benchmark of actually using the unit for light web-browsing and the like with normal brightness is a far fairer measure, which is usually about half of whatever is claimed. If the battery under normal conditions is even 5+ hours, I'd still be impressed.

Yeah i agree. These manufacturers should do a battery drain test so that we could see the range of the battery life. With the wifi on screen on full brightness so that we could see the max time when on full power.

¥265,000 = $2,650?
I suppose I'll believe that, when you add in cost of shipping etc, customs tax, and probably commission if you can't make it to Japan in person.
Still, is it too hard to google "265000yen to usd" ?

Did you mean: "265000 yen to usd"

32gb is a bit skimpy, 64 would be just right. I use around 20gb total and keep a full system backup on a separete partition necessitating around 50gb to be comfortable. It's great to think that we finally will see ssd as being affordable soon.

I see this as another lost opportunity. So far, all of the convertible tablet PCs I've found (with the notable exception of Lenovo's older X60) max out at SXGA / WXGA resolution. I'd like to see more vendors offer an SXGA+ / WSXGA option. And please, no trackpoints.
And fh, if you ever want to do a quick currency conversion check out XE.com's Universal Currency Converter (http://www.xe.com/ucc/). At current rates it gives 265000 Yen = US$2147.65.
