80GB iPhone?
Just spotted this in the iPhone's AT&T activation video. A 74.40GB capacity huh? Either they've got a hard disk drive iPhone in the works or the marketing team fudged the videos using an 80GB iPod. Check it for yourselves 6min and 17seconds into the video.

You all seem to missing the 12.55 GB of "Other" files on the capacity gauge.
Why would an 80GB iPod use so much space alone, anyway? Unless you're storing contacts, text documents, and other stuff, of course. But, I don't even see any video or photo files either.
Just my observation.
Did anyone notice what this video made clear you can _not_ do with the iPhone? Add custom music ringtones. I didn't see a ringtones section anywhere in the synching.
It's kind of stupid to belive that :)
it's the computer's hdd the iphone is sync to.
lol
But will the next generation ipod that looks a lot like the iPhone without any of the cellular stuff (but has the bigger touch screen, wifi appliance, etc) have 80GB?
the data you see is the size of the HDD it is being synced with. Everything on the HDD is not necessarily on the iphone...
No, it isn't the size of the computer's hard drive. If you watch the video, the narrator specifically states that the bar shows how much room someone has left on his/her iPhone. As has been repeated many times, someone most likely fudged the screencap using an 80 GB iPod. That would explain why the device's capacity is listed as 7.27 GiB above, but the capacity bar at the bottom lists a total capacity of 74.40 GiB.
It's a victory: Apple haters are officially more annoying than Apple fanboys.
FILL IN THE BLANK POST FOR EVERY i-PHONE HATER
Another iPhone post, every time I log onto engadget looking for __________, I have to wade through these dang posts.
What a wast of money the iphone is. I can't believe it doesn't come with ______ feature. I use that all the time on my _____, and it is ridiculous that such a hyped phone wouldn't have it.
All I know is I bought a _________ from ________ service provider. I cracked it open and added some lasers and flame thrower. I also taped a digital camera to the back. SO my phone can do everything the iPhone does for only $_____ dollars per month.
That was awesome.
If you look at 6:27 into the video it shows both the values at the same time!
I'm have had too many issues synching my ipods with itune as i have music on different machines. Hence, why would i want to repeat the same problems previously encountered with my ipods with an even more expensive ipod?
it is odd because they don't mention syncing photos at all and ipods usually don't have that much other taking up free space. you would think they would have new colors and stuff for email and data stuff.
Maybe this is the 'big surprise' that's supposed to be announced tomorrow. *laughs*
No.. not even close.
This is just the first time that the anti-Apple-fanboys have finally had enough and are fighting back. Go back over the history of Engadget and you'll see much, much worse from the anti-Microsoft crowd.
Maybe we're all just tired of the endless 'Get a Mac' or 'Get Linux' posts when we're reading about a Microsoft product.
Karma calling, amigo.
What goes around, comes around.
Wow...

I guess he really is a smart monkey.
Hey guys, heads up. Apple has since corrected this on the video. It now says 7GB instead of 70GB.
Am I missing something...I just watched the video and it never shows anything other than 7.** GB...
i like how its not necessary to do the credit check, its "optional" haha ATT will be making good friends w/ the debt collectors.
Nope I have checke dit out ant it is 7.24 gb
Fixed. No more 80GB.
I was hoping they would be like, "oh yeah...one more thing. We put the decimal in the wrong place. It's really 40GB and 80GB." One day maybe, but I might hold out until I see this in a demo:

Apple is doing this intentionally, like they did for the then hidden youtube.
Brace yourselves! You might be in for a treat...sooner than you think. And upgrades...what, free?
I'm dreaming...dreaming of MacWorld '08.
uhmm, why is wedding crashers in an apple demo? it's not on the iTS
HDD Cell-phone? Yeuch. But good too. I hated those 1GB/2GB phones with teeny-tiny screens ("And play the latest movies and music from V-Cast!"). That would just make the world explode, an 80GB iPhone.
