JVC's latest HTIB, the TH-L1, is HD ready
Since the whole world is going HD crazy, it only makes sense for typical home theater gear to follow suit. JVC's latest home theater in a box (HTIB), the TH-L1, will definitely make it easier for those who just bought an HDTV, then realize it's hard to enjoy 5.1 audio without a surround sound system. What sets the TH-L1 apart from your typical HTIB is that it has both component and HDMI switching (1080p capable, but not HDMI 1.3) as well as an iPod interface. The system also includes five speakers, a subwoofer, DTS and Dolby Digital decoding, and an array of inputs on the front and back, all for $299. Simply add an HDTV and Hi-Def disc player and enjoy.

Will that ipOd interface work with the ipHone as well?

My problem with this device is its only 5.1.
Playstation 3 is the Blu Ray player that is going to be dominant in the HD Video arena for a while so I think manufacturers would be intelligent to market towards the Playstation 3's 7.1 TRUE HD BluRay Playback abilities.
I pieced together my own 7.1 setup using an Onkyo reciever and Klipsch speakers since there aren't many readily available (all in box) choices of 7.1 setups right now.

Odds are anyone who thinks 5.1 isn't good enough are also not going to think a "home theater in a box" is adequate.

I agree Mr. B
I myself wouldn't want anything less than 7.1 or theater in a box.
I wouldn't want a PS3 as my HD player either. Sure it plays them, but I wouldn't want it fugly'ing up my living room.

Though true gadget freaks will disagree with me, I feel there is nothing wrong with a system in a box. SONY's $200 5.1 systems, and even RCA's $100 5.1 system aren't so bad for a room the size of a bedroom - or especialy the room of a teenager with a PS3 or Xbox.
I just hope that sooner than later the thearter-in-a-box makers will get smarter about their target audience. It happed already with more and more manufacturers offering Ipod solutions. I think its time the manufacturers reconnect with video game users.

That's what I said......
Now I have a kid and can only afford HTIB.
