Sony's NW-808 Walkmans for powderpuffs
It's that time again. In hopes of resurrecting the, uh, hype surrounding the NW-A800 Walkman players, Sony just loosed a white and pink version of their top-end NW-A808. 8, as in 8GB of flash. Nothing new on the specs which is fine by us -- it already holds its own against the competition. On sale in Japan starting July 10th for ¥32,800 or about $267.

You know Sony's in trouble when this is all they can manage after so many years of iPodomination.
Looks cheap and so 2003.

Have you seen one yet?
If you compare it side by side with an ipod nano, the nano will actually be the one that looks so cheap. I think it was because of the quality of the case and the screen.
The player itself seems to produce very good sound and it also comes with good earplugs.
The included software is very slow and irritating to use though.
At least, in my experience, I own one.

I have seen one and it is very sturdy, much better in hand than a Nano, IMO. The screen on the 808 is QVGA where as the Nano is still living in 2003 with its low-res screen.
Byte for byte it was also cheaper. And it came with a quality in-ear earphone, quite unlike the cheap ones that Apple bundles. Too bad I won't get it (because of SonicStage), but if I had to choose between this Sony or an Ipod, I will be getting the Sony.

A White and Pink version was available since they were announced. See the pic in this engadget post: http://www.engadget.com/2007/03/01/sonys-nw-a800-launches/

wait, mine is blue, (violet) (bought in japan) and it is 8GB...
I was just trying to say that it does not look cheap, I'm not a sony fanboy though.
I also like apple products that I bought a nano and an ipod video for my sisters and I also bought a macbook.
I'm sorry if it came out so strong.

As much as I would like to recommend Sony's Walkmans, I'm afraid SonicStage saps all enthusiasm.
Sony, please consider making SonicStage optional for music transfer (native "drag and drop" always being available) and adding advanced license-free codec support. Hint, hint.

This is really funny. Sony has not released this product in America. I wonder why. In Japan now Sony has 5 colours available for the 8 gig model. These two colours were only available in the 2 and 4 gig models. I suspect that they are doing quite well in Japan B).
