Apple posts iPhone user manual
It was about to be freed from the slippery grip of the FCC anyway, so Apple went ahead and posted the iPhone user guide for all to see. While we'd love to pore through all 118 pages and tell you all about the fine points our coverage may have missed, well, we're a bit busy at the moment. So have at it kids.

I find it funny how they leave out "the" from iPhone. As if it were a human being...
Yoh @ Jun 29th 2007 7:52PM
English headlines are almost always ungrammatical, and this phenomenon is hardly limited to coverage of the iPhone.
Jeremy K. @ Jun 29th 2007 9:02PM
I was referring to the user manual, not the post.
Yoh @ Jun 30th 2007 12:09AM
Then you were just being silly.
I can't think of a single instance where I've seen a definite article that wasn't part of the product name used on a manual or in a marketing context.

Check out page 113:
Removing the SIM Card
If you need to send your iPhone in for service or if you want to loan your iPhone to
someone and you still want to be able to make calls, you may be able to use the SIM
card inside iPhone with another GSM phone.
C'mon... how come it can't work the other way around?
Clayj @ Jun 29th 2007 7:45PM
You don't "pour" through pages, you "pore" through them.
Unpossible @ Jun 29th 2007 7:48PM
Engadget English fail?
I.M. Yerpappy @ Jun 29th 2007 8:06PM
I don't know about you, but I "pour" through the pages. That's the best way to filter out the sediment in corn liquor. That useless manual should be put to good use. I'd already seen all the videos so I know how to use everything on the iPhone. Plus, it's so intuitive that as soon as it touches your hand, you automatically know how to use it.
Jeez, I'm so drunk from these damn liquor fumes as I pour through the pages of the iPhone manual.

"Interesting"? You mean lame.

There's an interesting note on attachments: (page 112)
The iPhone supports attachment formats
.c, .cpp, .diff, .doc, .docx, .h, .hpp, .htm, .hpp, .htm, .html, .m, .mm, .patch, .pdf, .txt, .xls, .xlsx
Any particular reason they are specifying support for c++ source code?
derek @ Jun 29th 2007 8:02PM
good find! that is interesting... maybe it will run or allow mac os x apps afterall
Douglas Brace @ Jun 30th 2007 1:12AM
I am person that is actually cross-platform and is using both Office 2007 for Windows and Office 2004 for Macintosh on a regular basis. According to the attachments supported section of the iPhone manual, iPhone is capable for viewing among other formats, DOC, DOCX, XLS, and XLSX.
Am I the only one that finds it completely odd the Apple Inc. was able to make it possible for iPhone to view DOCX and XLSX (Office 2007) before Microsoft was able to make it possible for OS X?
All Microsoft as done so far for compatibility between Office 2007 for Windows and Office 2004 for Macintosh is create a DOCX converter that converts to RFT and lose the majority of the formatting.
I applaud Apple Inc. for being able to do this and Microsoft should be ashamed of themselves.

WOW! Any other devices have their user manuals online?
*rolleyes*

"However, you can transfer content purchased from the
iTunes store from iPhone to an iTunes library on another computer."
did anyone else notice this?
John @ Jun 29th 2007 8:51PM
The speaker & mic are both on the bottom of the phone, next to eachother...?
TJ @ Jun 29th 2007 10:18PM
Has anyone else seen page 21? It mentions that you can't use the internet over EDGE and talk on the phone at the same time.
Note: Because iPhone uses EDGE for the phone, you cannot use the Internet over EDGE when you’re on a call. To talk on the phone and use Internet applications at the same time, connect over a Wi-Fi network.
And then, if you're using internet over EDGE:
Note: While iPhone is actively transferring data over EDGE—downloading a webpage,
for example—you may not be able to receive calls. Incoming calls may go to voicemail.
That's not good.
