We know you've been waiting on pins and needles to hear who got firsties on draft 2.0 802.11n certification from
Wi-Fi Alliance -- we sure have. It looks like
D-Link is the lucky winner, with its D-Link
Xtreme N Router and Xtreme N Notebook Adapter the first products to receive the new badge. That means the two devices will be sporting a new "distinctive and prestigious logo," while D-Link can start boasting of the highest level of forwards compatibility in the wild west of 802.11n products. This doesn't begin to spell doom for draft 1.0 users, but it's always good to see things settle down a bit in that space while we wait another few decades for the spec to finalize.

Did 802.11g take THIS long to finalize? Geeze.

Horray for the 655.

This is awesome news. I've been wanting to pick-up the Xtreme N series equipment but wasn't quite ready to jump on the Draft N wagon yet, but this seems to be exactly the thing that is going to push this sale on me.
I'm glad to see the technology moving more forward too. I'm loving all this wireless stuff, I hope that it advances even further more quickly than it has been.

Tim Higgins at smallnetbuilder.com reviewed this equipment the other day and said:
"I spent a few days last week testing a D-Link DIR-655 router and DWA-652 Cardbus card, which are based on Atheros XSPAN silicon. These are the first products to have firmware and drivers posted that allegedly implement 11n Draft 2.0 compliance. My primary focus was to see whether the legacy protection mechanisms added in 802.11n Draft 2.0 were working in actual product.
My initial tests didn't look very promising and after some back-and-forth with D-Link, I'm even less encouraged."

I wouldn't buy this equipment with monopoly money.

LOL, they just want us to pony up some cash every little step of the way.
