Please post a video of the iPhone in action - I'm particularly interested in seeing how well it performs on the EDGE network when browsing various websites.
I'd also like to see a video, I want to know how smooth the interface will actually be. Also, whats the word on typing? Do you guys think it will get easier?
Mine's not going so well, after 6 minutes it timed out, and I got a message saying they'd email me when it activated. Activation help line is 'experiencing technical difficulties'
I'm an existing customer waiting now 2 hours to get a activation complete email. Gee do I have to leave the iphone connected to itunes for as long as it takes to complete this stupid activation?
The wait for activation doesn't bother me. The fact that the $600 device is USELESS until the activation is complete does. Why can't you use the ipod, wifi, browser etc until the phone part is activated? What were they thinking?
So say you activate your phone and then turn around and cancel service (pay ETF and all) would you still be able to use the iPod/video/wifi or do you need to have an active account at all times? I know it has been asked before but I don't think I have seen an answer yet.
If you start getting angry at the #!@%@^%%&^# activation...and you bought your phone in a different zip code than you live now...put in the old zip code from when you initially activated your phone. I was even more pissed when I called AT&T and all their customer service is CLOSED!!! Glad I figured it out or the dang thing would be in the blender...
Well it sounds like AT&T were completely unprepared, with their stores having problems almost as soon as they opened... Can't really blaim Apple I don't think!
No no no...this can't be right? Problems activating the service? Problems getting it to work? Must be those Microsoft Fan boys lying again. They have conspired to try and put a bad reputation on the Iphone. Its flawless. Everything that Apple puts together works instantly, never fails, and always is perfect. I refuse to believe anything that came from the loins of Steve Jobs is having any issue what-so-ever. Liars. All of you.
There is nothing wrong with the IPhone, it's a problem with AT&T and they way they are activating the phones, everything at Apple went smooth as silk and the IPhone itself is a marvel of a device.
I had the same problem with activation. I waited 90 mins on hold, and then at&t said it could take up to 24 hrs to activate. But the worst part is my previous phone became DEACTIVATED as soon as i went through the iphone setup in itunes! So i can't make or receive any calls at all...possibly for 24 hrs. I can't believe they didn't think of this. I almost wanna call 911 just so i can use the damn thing! haha
I saw a guy drop their iPhone (on purpose - don't ask me why) outside the Apple store in Palo Alto (with Sir Steve inside) and the screen shattered really nicely. Has anyone tried to use a SIM card from a different carrier with the phone yet?
Can anyone who activated, pop in another ATT sim? One from a blackberry or other PDA ideally?
What everyone wants to know - is the phone married to the SIM or is it a one time activation?
I too am stuck in corporate responsibility hell - 1.5 hours bouncing between four departments, trying to explain that yes the bill comes to me, yes I am the only one on the account, yes I can give you ANYTHING you want, but no one could switch me. Finally they tossed me over the fence to some NBO group - which ended with a "we're open mon-fri" ARRRRRGH!
So I want to activate on new, fire up, cancel activation and new service within a day - net cost $0. Pop in my sim from my corporate account and move on about my day. I've had enough! Bad enough I'm willing to give up my discounts, but not my private life.
Potentially dumb question: Can you use the iPhone for everything but phoning (e.g. wifi browsing, music, video, etc.) if you don't do the AT&T activation?
Yes, I got home and activated the iPhone through iTunes. After proceeding to be blown away by the coolness of it, I decided to pop out the SIM card. Wow, everything about the iPhone worked without the SIM card being in it (except for the cell phone function of course). Interestingly enough there was an orange fireball logo on the blue AT&T SIM card that said "3G" on it...ok? I didn't really buy it in the first place for the phone function anyways, so should I go ahead and pay AT&T the $175 extortion fee for leaving my contract now? (I'm posting this the day after the release by the way)
A scorpion was walking along the bank of a river, wondering how to get to the other side.Suddenly he saw a fox. He asked the fox to take him on his back across the river. The fox said, 'No, if I do that you'll sting me and I'll drown.' The scorpion assured him, 'If I did that we'd both drown.' So the fox thought about it, finally agreed. So the scorpion climbed up on his back and the fox began to swim. But halfway across the river the scorpion stung him. As the poison filled his veins, the fox turned to the scorpion, said 'Why did you do that? Now you'll drown too.' 'I couldn't help it,' said the scorpion, 'it's my nature.'
Okay, I really do not care for At&T, so I called up and asked if I wanted to sign up for service and cancel within 3 days. Will the Iphone remained unlocked and the rep said "YES". It will be a pain and hassle, but its worth it to use the Wifi and ipod.

My process was definitely not smooth or quick. Was told to wait 3-24 hours. Great job AT&T, glad I have 3 days to return.

Apple = Fox
AT&T = Scorpion
