2-4 week wait!
Sigh. I bought one but I wonder why they're taking so long for the online buyers. They should be shipping these puppies out.

T-Mobile ftw, yes. A phone is only as good as its network, and even Consumer Reports says that Cing, er, AT&T actually has the *worst* network in the country. (Well, it's close with Sprint, but that's not saying much.)
I'm just glad that I waited in line today so I could sell my iPhones on eBay. Yay for price gouging and people who are dumb enough to pay $1000+ for a phone that doesn't have picture messaging, voice dialing, or a replaceable battery.
I've never sent a picture message. I've never configured voice-dialing on any of my phones. I've never replaced a battery in my phone (by the time I need to, the phone is either broke is old enough where I need to replace it anyways).
It may not be your perfect phone, but from all the features the phone offers, it fits my needs just perfectly.

cingular? worst? hah?
t-mobile is (BY FAR) the worst service provider in my experiences (and jd power's)
cingular was ranked 2nd of 7 major providers in the northeast (where i live) with verizon obviously coming out in first
BUT verizon's prices are WAYYYY overpriced, its not even close between cingular and verizon price wise.
cingular focuses completely on the northeast, with heavy heavy emphasis on new york as their new york coverage is THE BEST. so im not really sure where you live that cingular is "the worst," but it might just be crazyman land. hehe
t-mobile is rated #1 for overall customer satisfaction in all six regions, according to jd power. t-mobile is also ranked #1 for business customer satisfaction, #1 for customer service, and #1 for retail sales performance. t-mobile ranks above all other nationwide carriers for prepaid service. t-mobile was ranked higher for call quality in 4 out of 6 regions when compared to cingular.
t-mobile rated first or second in 11 of the 16 cities consumer reports tested t-mobile in. 5 times it ranked third. it never ranked last.
cingular was last or second to last in 19 of the 20 cities consumer reports tested cingular.
consumer reports describes cingular as, "Middling to low levels of consumer satisfaction. Static and busy circuits were widespread problems, as they have been in our previous surveys. Relatively low marks for helpfulness in handling customer questions and complaints."
while t-mobile is described as, "A solid performer in almost all of the metro areas where we had sufficient survey data to rate it, but marred by lack of service in some places. [rural areas] Also ranked among the better providers in responsiveness to customer questions and complaints."
of course it depends on where you are located, but nationwide, t-mobile is clearly rated as a better service.
The Online Apple store is a little gimpy right now.
I'll try again later. I doubt V2.0 will be out in 2-4 weeks and that's the one I want.
Just purchased it online, 2-4 weeks and not even a confirmation. Just a note that I will know in a few hours if I purchased it or not. Hype fading quickly.
ATT Stores are the way to go. Just got back from one, where they didn't have any in stock. The overnight was only $15 and should get it by Tuesday :)

Most likely. The phone is a $600 brick until you activate it anyways (it can't even be used as an iPod). Since all the activation of the phone is done through iTunes, you don't have to do any of the service plan stuff until the phone is in your hands.
Purchased one online. The money was deducted from my account, so I'm assuming the purchase went through. 2-4 week estimated ship. Anyone think there's a chance it will ship sooner ?

The 2-3 week wait is just to cover themselves. Usually should ship by Monday from people at Apple.com I spoke to.

heh. I will be at home with my parents in NH (no sales tax, so no online sales tax) in 2 and 3 weeks. Had my 8 GB iPhone shipped there. Hope the timing works out.

i mean, im not gonna lie. I'd would love to buy one. But there are so many things just not right with the iphone that im gonna have to wait til the next gen of iphones. (who knows, a year? )
You people are a bunch of bitchers and winers. I got the phone after waiting less than an hour and for those that says its a piece of junk you obviously have not used it. I had the samsung blackjack and sure it did the job of checking email but forget about going on websites if you need to look something up. this iphone is hyped up but it deserves it, there is not phone like it!! i love it

Wow, a standard cell phone contract, way to go gum-shoe.
Apple does that to cover their butts. If you've ever bought a product from their website they always give a ridiculously long "delivery estimate" and it tends to show up before the start of that delivery window.
Here's the ultimate iPhone is a brick story: my AT&T account is on a small business plan with 7 lines on it.
Guess what: in its infinite wisdom, AT&T has decided people like me can't activate iPhones. Yup. Business guys? The ones who can afford these phones and their plans, no, you can't have them.
I've got to take the phone back. (And this isn't because my boss won't pay for it. I am the boss. And I sure as hell can pay for it. It's just my Mom, AT&T that won't let me have it.)

I was at an ATT store at opening today and promptly ordered an iPhone since they had run out of the measly 40 units they had yesterday.
I was told I would get it Tuesday if I paid for expedited shipping. Life is good...or is it?
At 2pm I get an email from ATT that tells me my order has been confirmed and that the handset is on BACKORDER!!!
Now I'm mad. I also found out that I can't cancel the expedited shipping fee (seeing as I'm going to have to wait anyway).
Then you go on eBay and they are over 6500 profiteers who bought multiple units and had no intent of using them...just making a profit.
Apple and ATT should have made anyone who bought a phone activate it in the store and either sign up for a plan or upgrade their existing ATT plan.
This is unfair to those who legitimately want to buy and use the phone and are willing to pay the already high price...but not the $1000 plus some eBayers want.

You know most of the time when you read an ad, most people dont read the small small print that they try to hide. So when people buy the iphone the company hands them the contract and people sign it in like 2 seconds. ( Iv'e witnessed this alot of times). But i know that your IQ must be over 200. i never thought someone would pay attention to the contract. thanks for reading it

I ordered it online too. My order was completed like 8 minutes after they went on sale online. I dragged my feet and went to the store late (Like 7). There were like 5 people in line and the first 2 got iphones. They were taking orders in-store but i didn't like the whole "We don't know when they are coming" thing. I don't think it is going to take 2-4 weeks for them to ship them. I think they just put that there as a just in case thing for those people who don't order right away. They said they would fill the orders on a first come, first serve basis. If my order isn't shipped by tuesday, i'm gonna cancel the order and wait it out.
I got an email today that says my phone will ship by Friday. I knew that whole 2-4 weeks thing was BS.

I JUST got an email from the apple store telling me that my iphone will ship by July 13th. I ordered the 8gb and completed my order 6/29/07 at 9:33 PM PDT.

My iphone was ordered for me as a gift on Monday, July 2nd. Two weeks and one day later and still nothing...
