Xbox 360 Hot Rock Case changes color as temperature rises
As if your options when scouting a replacement Xbox 360 case weren't endless enough, here's yet another alternative to ponder. XCMLive's Hot Rock Case may not do much to actually cool your potentially toasty console, but the LED-infused enclosure sports a digital thermometer that informs users of just how warm things are getting within. Additionally, the internal lights change color depending on the temperature range, and if it gets beyond a certain point (118-degrees Fahrenheit), the obligatory "flashing red" will act as your cue to take a momentary break or submerge your console in dry ice. No word yet on pricing or availability, but be sure to check an alternate shot after the break.

Looks very cool. But, is the "clear" design really popular anymore?
ajstre24 @ Jun 29th 2007 4:56PM
The color change doesn't make sense to me, it starts out orange for the coolest temp. Don't you think it would start out as blue or something?

So you can see the lights through the towel?
AdvWar @ Jun 29th 2007 5:01PM
It might overheat in it, but at least it looks "cool"..........

Something tells me this only looks good in the dark...

"submerge in dry ice" wouldn't it need to be a liquid to submerge
Color coding is confusing, coolest to warmest should be
Cyan
Blue
Violet
Green
Orange
Red
Having orange as lowest and red as highest will lead to confusion.

Actually, if you wanted "coolest" to "hottest," it would go more like this.
Orange
Red
Purple/Violet
Cyan
Blue
Green
This being based on the color of stars... I know there aren't any green stars, but theoretically, if a star got any hotter, it would be green... Just like some flames.

Save money and just fit red leds tbh. Not like it'll be at any other temp.
"So you can see the lights through the towel?"
xD

Zeus,
You may be right but honestly, the majority of the population doesn't utilize the "star temperature scale" to correspond temp w/colors. And I'm pretty sure the author of this is of the majority.

"hey....check out the cool color[BOOM!]"
Neebs @ Jun 29th 2007 7:21PM
If your Xbox eventually dies, does it turn black?
kevink @ Jun 29th 2007 8:22PM
no it goes back to the red we are all familiar with.

i dont understand why everyone is saying the 360 has such problems. no one i have ever met has had to return their 360, and i don't think any of my friends have met anyone either. there may be a small issue, but i think it has been somewhat blown out of proportion.

pretty cool

Chances are, if it turns red, so will the ring.
'Least it'll match!
SignificantMind @ Jun 30th 2007 8:28PM
Actually the Color Temp coding is.
From Cool To Hot
Simply it is Blue to Red
In advance it is..(from cool to hot)
Red, Orange, White, Blue.. (Astronomy Temp).
Lyn John @ Jun 30th 2007 8:33PM
Meh there are better things out there to control the temp of your 360.
I have a self adjusting fan that monitors your cpu and gpu temps. Depending on the game the GPU will get from 48 degrees celcius to 54. Anything above 56 and you get the red lights but i havent had that happen yet.

Same thing came out for the wii about a month ago
Tekken @ Jul 1st 2007 4:26AM
since this isn't made fully yet maybe we can persuade them to change the color codes, because like others said, orange is a strange way to start it off.
