It's not like you need any clearer a picture of what to expect from the iPhone interface at this point, but we'll show you some real world use of the device in this walkthrough as we churn through just about every app and option the iPhone's got. Embedded video after the break!

Except for the caps I totally agree with this. It's still just a phone. And it crashes too. Also the keyboard is horrible, not just horrible. It's in fact the worst keyboard i've ever used. EVER. And i've used a twiddler.
Just curious, would you say overall if its worth the money, because I was also looking at the Nokia N73 which is unlocked for less and I was just wondering if anyone had an opinion on this.
You may want to just wait if you don't absolutely need a new phone right now. The iPhone is going to drive up competition, and drive down the prices of other phones that do a lot more.
If you are okay with basic phone tools and iPod tools, then it's perfect. If you need more (e.g. document editing tools, email management, customizeability), then just wait.
I wouldn't spend 350-400 on an n73. That phone is excellent, but it came out last April and will soon be far surpassed by phones coming out in the next few months. The n95 is more worth its money, and while it's running 650, it still a very powerful phone with decent longevity.
I wouldn't bother with any Nokia phone. I've always bought Nokia and am currently using an N93. I've had it changed 3 times because the firmware is total crap. I've had the same problem with the last 2 Nokia models (Communicators) that I've had.
Now the iPhone is here I can finally dump Nokia. The S60 OS is very underpowered for what the phone is supposed to be capable of and I don't expect the N95 is any different.
Sure on paper it does more than the iPhone but the user experience is just horrible.
Its funny how everyone who doesnt have one hates on it. Its a first gen phone just like the first gen iPod. But this time it has competition whereas the iPod did not. So everyone has something to compare the iPhone to. Apple isnt marketing this as the phone of the future. They are marketing the simplicity of the way phones should be. From its fluid interface to its simple menus and options, cell phone manufacturers have something to look at when designing their next phone.
The only problem I am seeing with the iPhone is that Apple spent so much on advertising by flooding the media with commercials every other break and their videos online. But after seeing every video and every commercial about 20 times each (literally), it kind of makes me wonder what I would have to look forward to if I were to get one. I mean, I already know what the phone can do and how to use it. Ive seen every menu and feature, so if I were to get one, nothing would surprise me. ATT sucks in my area which is why I will not be getting on anytime soon.
How come I have seen no comments or videos on finger prints on the screen? Ive seen a couple photos with it covered in fingerprints and no one has said anything.
PS. I didnt know you guys were cool with Rich Brome over at PhoneScoop!
The reason why you don't hear about fingerprints and smudges on the display is that it's a non-issue. When the iPhone is off, you can see all sorts of finger gunk on it, but once you turn the display on, you don't see the gunk anymore because the display is so good.
Are you serious? This is the biggest most hyped consumer electronic release ever. Every website, blog, news cast, podcast, etc is covering this phone. Do you really expect one of the top gadget blogs not to have extensive coverage of it? I dont have an iPhone but I understand why they are covering it so much. Its more talked about than the airport attacks today. And if you dont want to read anything on it, go to another blog. No one told you to come to this site and then click on the story, leave a comment, go to your email and confirm your comment. You probably even watched the video didnt you? I did.
But how can we go to another blog if they're all covering it as you say?
What I want to know is why there is so much news on non-events relating to the iPhone. Sure, you can cover actual news but there seems to be a lot of pointless crap floating around. In the absence of decent iPhone news why not just post... y'know... other news.
you really are a moron...as with any big launch sites are going to do hands-on reviews, it's what they're here for. and edge doesn't take 2min to load up a page like yahoo, heck it doesn't take near that long to load up a huge page like espn...i would know, i use it every single day. and it's even faster now that the speeds were increased a couple days back
@ WIll Lol i'm just asking the cpu type and mhz speed of the cpu, i havn't found this relevant data on those rich covering blogs, at least searhing "iphone cpu" on engadget gives no clues
Yeah, I pretty sure Im not the only one who is annoyed at the mass coverage of this phone, and thats exactly what it is....a phone, and I hope that you bought one and signed up for that 2 year service plan, and have fun taking over 2 minutes to load something as simple as a yahoo page.
Kyrra: this shows you don't know what your talking about at all...the mobile site of youtube has videos in 3gp for streaming to phones 176x144...but it's a really really tiny fraction of those, mainly the featured ones
yes I can do all that with one hand you would have to be a retard not to be able to use any feature with one hand. Try using the phone before criticizing.
No, you don't care. Some people cared enough to camp out at the stores. This is one of the most anticipated digital communication devices in years and so it is going to get an insane amount of coverage. I'll agree it is overkill, but how about you just suck it up and just skip over the iPhone stuff for a few more days.
You know whats amazing about some of the 'WHO CARES ITS JUST A SHITTY PHONE AND IT SUCKS' comments? That these people go through the effort of CLICKING on the iPhone story, going to the comments section, then composing their useless message and sending it through. Pretty damn amazing for someone who doesnt give a shit about the iPhone. I certainly dont see myself going to these lengths for products that I dont care about- simply to post that I dont care about them.
You want to know why I posted my discontent about the iphone?, I like to post on engadget, and when you don't have anything to work with, because apparently you haven't noticed that every single story is about the iphone, and I can say with certainty that I am not the only one that is displeased with the media flood about the Iphone, apparently I stirred up the hive of apple fanboys when I criticized their new baby, and slurpy your hypocrisy is amusing :)
Hey look, some of you mayt not care, but for me, im fucking obsessed with this thing, im going to camp the stores in Australia when it comes out for at least 3 days, i MUST have one. This is one of the most amazing pieces of gadgetry since ......... well the vibrator.
This was a great video, thanks for it guys at engadget, my iPhone cravings are tamed for another hour.
Ummm, yes you can watch this video on your iphone....as there are download links for .mp4.....just download the vid, and sync it with itunes 7.3....you can also convert almost any video to an ipod friendly format and sync it to itunes to play on the iphone.
well if this video was on a video sharing site you would be able to watch it on your phone. if you check out zannel.com you can watch hundreds of videos on your phone and even send them to friends' phones too. the quality is great and they have some really funny content as well.
Apple has finally come out with a product that is worthy enough for me to buy. Although this iPhone will most likely be my last Apple purchase ever, it was definitely worth the dough, I'm loving it, I can't put it down.
How did this thing pass FCC, you can HEAR the interference with the video camera in almost every frame of the shot. So annoying! Keep this thing away from pacemakers or you could be iDead!
