what codec is the AVI file? vlc, wmp, QT, nothing will play it.
How did this thing pass FCC, you can HEAR the interference with the video camera in almost every frame of the shot. So annoying! Keep this thing away from pacemakers or you could be iDead!
Third time that the download breaks mid way, happen to other people ?
I had several breaks mid way but it eventually all came through. Just keep trying.
4th time now ... :/
5th time, ok I'll stop here I guess ... :)
Aside from the usual lols, Engadget: why don't you torrent your videos? Makes a lot more sense than offering just direct downloads.
i just fell asleep
do u have the cheesy iPhone commercial song in the video?
Thanks, but you know, with that big hand of yours in front of the screen whenever it gets interesting, this video is not really much of use. Did you realize where you put your camera? This is annoying, what a waste of 300MB.
Without a doubt that was the best video of someones right hand i've ever seen. When can we expect the left?
All the haters can suck my wand for all I care - this is a cool device.
This is great but next time don't keep your hand in front of the screen 70% of the time.
Haha that is fantastic!
Yay for GSM interference!
i m not impressed with the iphone....the touch screen doesn't look revolutionary..its just a big screen with icons huge enough to be pointed out with a finger...and in the video it wasn't that responsive either....and also the phone did hang alot...not to forget safari CRASHED!!!
the only good thing it has is the nice good looking operating system!!!
Well done. Thanks for the work :)
What a moron. Could he TRY to atleast cover up the whole screen so we didn't have to see his stupid video? He must not know that apple has a professional tutorial out..

No games?
hey the rosebuds are friends of mine! thats kinda cool. at least we know he has good taste in music.
Great video walkthrough Ryan. I've resisted the very strong urge to grab one since I need some additional functionality that I'm getting through my WinMo and Nokia devices, but there's no denying the simple, effective UI as you've shown.
TO ENGADGET: (not written in a sarcastic tone) Be mindful of the position of the camera and where you place your hands in future videos.
Man, normally I don't post but aside from a few issues, this is an amazing device. It works like all cell phones should have always worked. Apple got it right. Have a cookie!
But the issues...
Recessed headphone jack: My beautiful Sure e5s won't fit in it. WTF?
Apple remote headphones that use the doc connetion... won't work. See above. No workaround here.
No flash content in the browser? Shame on you Apple. What's this truncated Youtube... who decides what's there? Get Flash running quick!
iCal is OK... but what about a simple task list? We need something a little more robust than the calender. Thanks for the multi alarm per event though!
When I'm IMing... why can't it work in widescreen mode so I have a bigger keyboard?
Other than that... and a lack of 3rd party apps, this device is a thing of beauty and worth every penny.
Well, I tried one today at the store. Some random impressions:
I used it for about 30 minutes...I was surprised actually that there wasn't a line to try it out. That store did sell out, but there wasn't the line of people waiting to get their hands on it that I expected.
Another guy came in to try it out, and he had a really hard time understanding that the Google Maps app needed a Wifi or cell connection to work.
My personal impression was that the video performance/ipod features were great. Web browsing was pretty decent too, even on EDGE. The Youtube app was actually impressive, and even over edge was acceptable (sort of). On WiFi, the video I tested took 3 seconds to load and play; on EDGE it was 14 seconds. Not speedy, but it worked.
The keyboard absolutely sucked, though. I hope that they offer a graffiti-type interface for it in v2 or with a software update. One other thing I noticed is that it is VERY easy to miss-hit the screen's many icons, particularly when using the pinch-pull resize in google maps or the browser. This thing just isn't suited for sending long emails.
Most probably know already, but there is no Flash support, so web pages that need it are worthless on the phone. So really, Apple gave us 98% of the internet, but not quite the whole internet as promised. Hopefully, the y will fix this in an update.
The early comment about smudges disappearing when the screen is on was accurate, at least in the store. It is a very, very nice screen.
YEEESSS I AGREE FINALLY SUM1 SPEAKS UP THIS WAS LIKE THE BEST WEBSITE BUT NOW..... Screw !phone screw !apple all togethor comps are crap and if ppl werent so stupid they would not even buy ipods coz they got UBER shiit playback and can play like mpeg4(SHIT) and....... hmm....... mp3(WOW)creative plays like everything its like VLC media player compared to windows media VLC PWNS WMP as engadget PWNS itself these last few days.
Many of you say you don't care anymore than why are you reading and commenting on the subject. If you really want it to go away don't read it or comment about it.
When morons complain about the so called violence in TV we all say than stop watching. Same goes here.
Than being said The iPhone lives up to and surpasses expectations. No it is not without flaws but the is no perfect Phone yet. If you don't like Apple or its platforms fine it is not for you but don't preach to everyone else who has open minds and will choose for themselves.
Stop saying its expensive ... expensive is relative some of us have good jobs and can afford it... don't hate, study graduate and get a job.
Don't knock the features - for now it is the most feature rich phone around ... well for the next few weeks anyway. It needed to come out so the industry could move forward. I lived in Japan for all of last year and J-Phones are far better than the iPhone but thats a different market. iPhone will push us closer.
Don't bitch about edge - we will manage or go to a 'buks and use the hotspot.
Just learn to read the news and make good comments or none at all. All the whining is killing the fun of reading blogs.
Actually, I don't know what's more pathetic:
1. People who hate the iPhone without even trying it
2. People who hate the iPhone because it's made by Apple and hate Apple products anyway
3. People who call enthusiastic users of Apple products "fanboys" or "lemmings", yet defend their non-Apple (read: usually Microsoft) gadgets to the death.
Fact is, according to most, if not all, of the early reviews of the iPhone (even the Boston Globe, and C-Net, whose writers are well known Apple-Haters) the device is a game-changer and has already set the mark that other phone makers will have to reach, as far as UI is concerned. If Apple's domination of the MP3 market is any indication, it just might do some serious damage in the cell phone industry.
Don't hate - celebrate!
Dude! That Background would be soooo cool if it really showed the battery life, Awesome photoshop work man!!!
soo cool
Fuck you guys for deleting my replys -not my fault you failed the personal nail hygiene FUCKING LOOSERS
im off t ogizmodo or techeblog
Decent video, the guy that made it doesn't have a lot of common sense as he keeps putting his hand in the way the whole time. It looks like the iPhone's software still needs some work too.
I bet the next version of this fixes a lot of stuff
