Vegans, avert your eyes. Care for some large shots of the ThinkPad Reserve? Yeah, we all know it's just a ThinkPad swaddled in leather, but it's still got a certain something -- especially in high res.
I'm just glad its not an iPhone post - plus, is that just a thinkpad wrapped in leather that doesn't really fit? I could make a reserve edition of almost anything in about 5 minutes
What???? So...the company that bought IBM's Thinkpad division and is so clearly doing a bad job at it is dedicating it's time to making cases out of cows?
You would really think that that is best left to the companies that make accessories..
yeah, it has got a certain something... like sending shivers down my spine! Brrrr, that thing is so similar to a taco. Sorry guys, can't appreciate it.
It reminds me of the Psion series 6, if anyone can remember it. In 1999 I thought wow, leather on a computer, it's like saying, its like a book but its a computer, I woz 8 years younger then. Now I think, ow dear, if its anything like my brown leather shoes from 1999 it will look crap in 6 months. Sweat a leather don't mix, if its on your lap make sure you put a bag down first else you will smell like a cows bum.
Am i the only one that "Thinks" that this pad will have some serious ventilation issues? great idea IBM, now your laptops can expierience what it would be like to be a construction workers foot...
Oh!!! This just gave me a great and unique idea... I bet I could make a similar leather cover for the iPhone and sell it to the public... with a special docking station that attaches directly to ones bank account...
The only time this thing looks nice is when is closed. Once you open it, it looks more like something out of the 80's. Plus, they were not thinking about ventilation issues here at all. I don't care how cool looking you think your laptop is. It'd still need ventilation holes.
In any case, why would they use leather? Sure, to spike up the price. But, couldn't they just have gone for the color of it and paint it that way? Dell is using a lot of different colors on their laptops. What's so different here.
Didn't think microsoft would over-look heating issues, but look what happened there....(incase you're an idiot then i'll spell it out for you "Three lights of death, angry customers, massive returns, potential class action") oh but the IBM website says it's all good so they must be using some new breathable leather ...
PS. I must be an idiot cause i couldn't find anything on the thinkpad site that mentioned anything about the reserve... the only thing in the "what's new" section was the olympic torch... could you provide a link to this IBM assurance that the reserve's inards wont melt in your lap like M&M's in your mouth.
you must have have forgotten that engadget post about 3 weeks ago. it had a tour of the t'pad and specifically explained the reason for it's stupid fucking design.
guess it's not hard to do with almost every post about an iphone. i counted 24 out of the last threads were iphone related
Its not the leather that matters. This laptop is going to come with one hell of a service package and warranty and thats where the money goes. The case is probably just a freebie so you can spot the difference.
It is just my or is it that even when IBM wraps something in LEATHER, it still looks ugly, yeh for the thinkpad aesthetic design team, oh wait, I forgot there wasn't one

I'm drooling over it, and I don't even know why.
Must be the high res combined with the overall sexy factor of monotone leather without a case.
I want my Moto Q wrapped in leather.

Ah, nothing like leather to give something a "professional" look for no reason.

Although the suit looks nice it still can't hide the fact that thinkpads are damn ugly.

How does burning leather smell?

You did not include the shot with the $5,000 price tag on the back!...

for all those bitching about the ventilation read the effin thinkpad website. You really think engineers would forget a crucial part? Idiots

The leather doesn't seem to have an impact as far as Greenpeace is concerned.... can you recycle leather?

Thinkpads are the best notebooks around, durable and made with better materials!
although this is pretty gay.

The case looks good but also doubt that it's good for ventilation.
