ASUS to split OEM business -- look out HP, Dell
Brace yourselves old school PC players, Asustek has just unveiled their plan to become more competitive. Like HTC before them, Taiwanese Asustek Computer will begin pushing their ASUS brand front and center. To make this happen, Asustek's OEM business will split from their branded business under the new names of Pegatron (PC-related manufactuing) and Unihan (casing, modules, and non-PC goods) starting January 2008. Trouble for the establishment, maybe, but nothing short of good for us consumers.

I cant decide if Pegatron is the worst name ever or best name ever

Megatron is not amused, autobot!

ASUS has become such a trusted name in the custom built computer market that I don't know how a name change for that sector is going to work. Frankly I'd much rather buy a motherboard from ASUS than from Unihan.

Renaming the parts is a terrible idea. However, when it comes to buying new computer parts, I'll be there looking for Pegatron and Unihan. Or maybe I'll do what they want us to do and just buy a new Asus pre-built computer.

Ick. I'm an Asus fanboy, but I definitely don't want to put anything named Pegatron in my computer no matter how good it is. I'd much rather have arguments about how Asus is pronounced. If you call their tech support, I believe they pronounce it with a long A and long u, with the stress falling on the second syllable. AysOOS. Either way, I hope it works out for them.

Wow! Your stupid. Your not going to buy a product because of the name. Grow up!

Oops, I suppose it did come across that way due to bad wording. What I meant is I would RATHER have something called ASUS than Pegatron; I would never prefer the name Pegatron. Not sure what I was thinking when I wrote that. You have to admit that saying you have a Pegatron motherboard sounds a lot geekier than saying you have an ASUS motherboard. Then again, I suppose you'll already sound pretty geeky just because you're discussing motherboards with someone.

I just put together a new rig with an Asus motherboard 3 days ago. They have non-existant UK support but everyone I know trusts the brand. I like the old name, and I pronounce it as Azues, someone I know is convinced it is Aces.

OMG... Pegatron, rhymes with Megatron. When will the Transformers marketing end?!
Mike @ Jul 2nd 2007 11:30AM
What I think this post is trying to explain is that Asus will have three different areas, aftermarket/sys. builder asus hardware (what we know and love), Pegatron (OEM PC hardware), and Unihan (other OEM computer hardware).
At least that is how I read it. I really like all ASUS products so hopefully this will allow them to concentrate on making more badass hardware!

Pegatron, haha.
Isn't Asrock related to Asus? Asrock already had a logo that reminded me of Transformers... check the banner at the top: http://www.asrock.com/index.asp.

This is confusing. What was wrong with using the Asus brand on everything? Been using an Asus laptop for 3 years and it's still running as well as the day I got it. I'm running an Asus mobo in my PC too. No problems with that either. I've always liked Asus products, but the name Pegatron sounds more like a cheap 3rd-party knock-off brand. They should stick with Asus for consumer products.

Is THAT how its pronounced? I always thought it was "A-SUS"
bartoron @ Jan 3rd 2008 9:03PM
Long live Aysoos and their overpriced yet feature packed motherboards!
