AT&T's data network down for the iPhone?

Having problems with AT&T's data network on your iPhone? Or any phone for that matter? We are too, and so are other people up and down the west coast. It's been spotty for about the last 45 minutes, so far as we can tell -- let us know in comments if you're having issues (and where you're at)!

Verizon and Sprint suck here.
AT&T and T-Mobile work great.
I have 3G and my first speed test gave me 643kbit/sec. that's with 2 bars in my office. anyone with edge want to share?

No data here in Detorit, MI either. I sure hope ATT learns something from all this an improves their network for the sake of us all.
mine has been down since like 3 pm ! Spotty since 7 pm. This is ridiculous
edge has been down in los angeles (pasadena, highland park)
3G has been on and off (mostly off) for me in downtown Los Angeles.
So AT&T's Data network is different on the iPhone vs. say my 8525. Learn something new everyday.
Yeah, here in Los Angeles the iPhone Edge is not working but the edge on other phones like the ones at the AT&T store work just fine. I was about to go to the apple store and get it replaced but I guess it's just crappy ass AT&T's fault...

Well let's see... you were told to expect roughly 200,000 + users being added to your network in a short period of time. (gotta love the marketing dept) You plan and make upgrades and figure those estimates may be low, so you prepare for say 300,000 or even 400,000 Instead, you get 550,000.
You're gonna have problems. I don't care if you're AT&T, Verizon, Sprint or T-Mobile, you cannot add that many users in such a short time span and not expect issues.
It's just an unrealistic expectation.
Edge has been down since about 10:00am in Boulder CO

I had issues getting on the net with my Iphone all morning. It started to work shortly after 5:pm (So Cal)
Ryan, I had the same problem in SF, though I was back up before 4pm. While I find Edge mostly unbearable for surfing the Web, it seems reasonable (not zippy, but usable) for YouTube and Google Maps (even with satellite pictures). I don't think it's the Edge network per se, but something to do with http and/or Safari.
Yes, I noticed the issue, was in Oxnard, CA at the time...
I live over in Minnesota and my Samsung SYNC couldn't connect to the 'net earlier today either. AT&T is really slackin' behind.
ATL is still down, i've been down for a few hours now. Help..
Haha, Verizon is working wonderfully right now. Not to mention all the time.
West LA out most of the afternoon and now simply crawling...apple stores here say to simply bombard AT&T with complaints...I say lets bombard both AT&T and Apple as Apple's the one responsible for putting this impressive phone in the hands of a company ill equiped from the start to handle this or any similar featured phone. Having swithced from Verizon, I'm almost regretting the decision, regardless of how great this phone is. I know any of the carriers would have their challenges with this sort of a roll-out, but come on...BTW, just got off the phone with Apple tech support and they indicate that they have had only a "few" complaints about the network speed. Clearly, they need to hear from everyone posting on this board, otherwise, there won't be a catalyst for immediate change to this unfortunate and sad state of affiars.

Same problem. EDGE was down and I called 1-800-MY-IPHONE, which set me up with an appointment at the apple store at 4:30. Of course EDGE came right back up at 4:15!!! didnt have to go to the apple store.
is there that much of a noticeable difference in speed when EDGE is down vs. when it's working?
Still incredibly sluggish this morning in West LA...BTW, has anyone else noticed that email is slow to "load" and you can't reply/forward until the email is loaded up? It seems that the email has to "load" every single time you try and read/respond to that email?
My IPhone read "No Service" all day yesterday. I coudn't make calls nor connect to the WWW. Didi anybody els experience this too, or did everybody else just have Edge problems?
On the phone with AT&T...at first they said no problems with the network, but now they are saying it's the south, east and west...uhm...
Here's one solution...... everyone has a 14 day period in which to return their iphone and discontinue their ATT wireless account without a charge. If my iphone isn't working well in the next few days i'll return the iphone and quit ATT. Apple was warned against using ATT in the first place. enough people doing that will get the attention of both Apple and ATT.

I used to work for T-mobile customer care on the west coast & If I recall correctly, I read in an article that GSM towers in the states are not able to transmit the signal as powerfully as they do overseas due to our stupid regulations. Instead we're stuck having the best service only in heavily populated areas with towers in mass numbers in those set markets.
Does anyone recall how terrible T-mobile coverage used to be indoors? This problem has mostly been remedied through the build-out of towers w/ the 850 frequency.
CINGULAR JUST SUCKS....BILLING ERRORS, TERRIBLE SERIVCE. IF APPLE HAD HALF A BRAIN CELL THEY SHOULD HAVE GONE WITH VERIZON.
UMMM...if you know a phone is coming out months even years in advance.. you prep for it..You stress your network and find out how much it can take.You plan ahead...Cingular infamous for tearing up shop. They have billing errors, the put services on your account that you didnt ask for. They are the Wells Fargo of Cell phones. Big company, but screw the little guy. I had Pac bell all the way till they were Cingular...they were always terrible.
EDGE is down in Massachusetts right now
New England att data network was down this morning. I noticed down at 9:00 am EST and is now just up at 11:21 EST.
