Steorn Orbo: canceled
Holy snakeoil Batman, The Steorn Orbo exhibition has been canceled. According to a press release by Steorn CEO (and lead shyster) Sean McCarthy, the company "will explore alternative dates for the public demonstration." Yeah, right. If the heat from the lights was really an issue for the on-site built device, why didn't they: 1) turn off the lights, or 2) fly in the so-called working "free energy" device from Dublin? After all, they still have 9 days left to exhibit. Lame.[Thanks, Marc O. and Arthur D.]

I haven't made up my mind about the intent of Steorn's directors, but logic tells me that anyone this unprepared for worldwide display of a new technology lacks the intelligence to build a reliable clock radio, let alone a world-changing free-energy device.
I'll keep sinking my money into development of energy-efficient devices powered by renewable energy. Let me know when this "miracle" makes me bankrupt. LMAO

You can have free energy, as long as you don't use that energy to power any lights.
When I saw the web pix of the installation, I begin to suspect the orbo gadget is simply an analog of a rubber band heat engine (just google those 4 words to get the idea) ....
Compare the pix of the orbo gadget:

with
http://www.haverford.edu/physics-astro/Demonstrations/thermo/rubber_band_heat_engine.htm
or
http://faraday.physics.uiowa.edu/heat/4F30.70.htm
These just seem too similar! This explains why the heat inside a closed lucite(perspex) box is too uniform for their gadget to work. They may have substituted some higher performance polymer for the rubber bands (which counter-intuitively shrink when heated - shaken long chain molecules, doncha know) as the tilted spokes in their analogous apparatus - but it absolutely requires a differential heating across the circumference, and thereby an energy source - which could cleverly be disguised as illumination lamps, or as even as largely invisible infrared lamps, etc - a wireless power source,,,,
added item: the earth's magnetic field has an energy density of about 0.001 Joules per cc. To get half a Watt per cc that is claimed to be produced you'd have to extract that energy (which would ultimately come from the earth's rotational energy) every 200 microsec. You ponder whether that makes sense.
Cute, but those pictures of the orbo are not pictures of the orbo. They are pictures of the perspex display case that the demo was supposed to be in.
do not mock Lord Baskara!!! the wheel works I tell you.
I've been inventing things as well but the reason permanent magnet engines like this one doesn't work because the armature, the one that spins in the middle, would just stop eventually. To keep the armature rotating, it would need to constantly change polarity for both sides of the armature (for maximum efficiency) so that there is always a constant repulsion (or attraction if it's designed this way)- just like in the electric motors we have now. In order for a "magnet motor" to keep rotating, the other half of the cylinder must be attracting the magnet and that someone or something has to pull (attraction) and push (repulsion) it, otherwise it stops. That's the problem there, it's not self-operating. This is similar to a chinese double-piston bellow that creates a steady flow of flame in ancient times (flamethrower). A lot of perpetual machines that are out there seem to work because we only see it running for a few minutes after they pushed or pulled it (same effect when done in a spiral) using a set of outer magnets. Some are aided by center force (on the way up) + gravity (going down) and some get additional push from an electric motor which uses a battery the magnet motor presumably charges (but it could the electric motor could very well be doing most of the work). Using gravity and center force could help put more than the machine puts in but its not practical because it has to be at a proper angle, usually 90 degrees. Those that are aided by an electric motor stops eventually as well when the battery runs out.
However if you analyze closely, according to my theory, it is possible for things to last forever. An example could be matter and energy themselves, it just recycles itself (conservation). Another example is movement of natural forces on earth (minus plate movements and moons gravity effect on earth), as long as there is air and doesn't escape the earth, bodies of water and air itself as wind, will move because of warm and cold air displacing each other all the time (like negative and positive, yin and yang goes in a circle too noticeably). Wind and flowing water as we know it is mechanical force that is always there. Nature also shows that its possible to output more than you put in. My example is a collapse of a star wherein if you're only looking at gravity, a black hole's gravity is many times stronger than its original gravity when it was a star but then a black hole does loose it former nuclear fusion, its light and heat energy. Input and output of power may be relative. Sun's power = light and gravity vs. power of the same sun collapsed (blackhole) = many times its former gravity - light. We can't say that Sun's power = blackhole's power.
A magnet motor may one day be possible without the need for an outer force to push or pull the magnets on the armature if someone discovers a smart permanent magnet material that naturally changes polarity when it encounters another permanent magnet (normal permanent type is ok) of the opposite pole (if the engine is a repelling design).
The perpetual engine is not really the holy grail but how long it will outlast you. If a magnet motor could power a clock for 3 years but the whole contraption is bigger than a D size battery that could power the same clock for 10, the battery then is a better energy source than the energy of the magnets pulling or pushing in the magnet motor. Same with plutonium or uranium should it become common place, a small amount lasts decades that is if you have a lots of water for steam, for mechanical output- not practical for most anything except submarines and power plants.
Possibly a better way to run things is a discovery of a radiation and magnetism panel (like a solar panel) that will absorb radiation and/or magnetism and convert that into electrical energy. You just stick the a small ball of of plutonium or a magnet and your car runs for many years. In some ways our bodies are run like that where our plutonium is our food only food makes us only it last for days without refueling. Another way is of course to just put the plutonium in a reaction chamber in the car's engine that might only need one piston and in a controlled way do bits of nuclear fission to get the crankshaft rolling but it might take too much energy just for the fission to be created. Another way is to find a substitute for steam wherein the radiation could react to a new liquid that does not turn to steam but only moves and at the same time cools the plutonium.
Steorn has a high possibility that its art using viral marketing. But hopefully its not, but then if we do get to invent a perpetual machine, that's like each of us having a nuclear submarine. Nobody will turn off anything. It will be chaotic, noisy, too much light around, too much waste generated because there'll be too much energy that the components that will use it will not last due primarily to overheating. It will be uncontrolleable. How do you stop a battery charged by a magnet motor from getting overcharged without breaking the gear that is attached to it to stop it from charging the battery? Where will that excess energy go? Cellphones will just explode in our faces, remote controls in our hands. It's not like a solar cell where the current is easy to cut off, the cells don't have moving parts.
Dude, all of your logic is so broken, it hurts. It would inevitably take more energy to reverse the polarity of the magnets in your proposed magnet motor than it would generate from that reverse in polarity. Friction breaks everything, and no magnets would reverse polarity on their own. There is no such thing as a perfect vacuum, so friction will always be there. Even in space, small particles and stellar winds will slow something down.
Since gravity is proportional to mass and not density, the net gravitational force, or change in potential, if you will, is not changed when a star becomes a black hole. Newton's theory of general relativity explains, however, that since the effects of gravity are felt by an actual curvature in space, a much more dense black hole will cause a more intense and harsh curvature thus causing the illusion of having more force. At any given point within a certain distance of the black hole, the gravitational force will be stronger due to its concentration of mass, but its overall ability to generate gravitational force is the same. The overall disturbance in the fabric of space is of equal magnitude but of different shape and gradient. Also the light generating reactions were much further from the center of mass, but during a collapse they are forced together increasing the pull of gravity on the generated light.
Finally, you think there are infinite sources of energy on Earth like wind and water movements, yet you fail to realized that Earth is not a closed system. Its energy comes from it rotation, it heated core, and the sun's radiation. The Earth will eventually run out of momentum and lose its orbit, the core will cool, and the sun will die. Then the wind will stop blowing.
Let me know if you get any headway on your magical radiation panel. I would love to "just stick a ball of" a highly dangerous material in my car, or somehow coax radiated energy from a magnet, but someone has to stomp on those rose colored glasses of yours.
@Joe. Hi, sup? Gravity (force) was mentioned instead of Gravitation (Einstein's), even if we include Sir Hawking's black hole glowing, since they are all theories that we need use to explain current phenomenon, it's regardless. But we did mention Input greater than Output, if we say that Input still equals to Output with the black hole and its light (admittedly that's not Input greater than output anymore), still the same thing- it would defy the laws of motion wherein the Output should be deteriorating. Therefore we can say that in nature there are mechanics that defy the laws, thus a Free Energy Engine is possible if it runs just for the sake of running. But that engine is useless because as soon as you put load say a crankshaft, the output deteriorates unless you eliminate friction if you can separate each minute part with a perfect vacuum (it's possible to move a vehicle without friction). In this way Free Energy Engine is not possible because it will be useless with a load but on itself, it is possible. Possibly was mentioned too. Peace.
C'mon, "the time variance in magnetic fields"? Who can get behind that junk?
nobody thinks it could have been sabotage?
I think Gorilla Advertisement to SELL cameras for astream.net.
Thats my 2 cents.
come on y'all...this is sabotage
They should have powered the aircon from Orbo.
There was an article in New Scientist the other week regarding a theory that "reality" only exists when it is observed.... now that to me is absurd, yet it is still something that is investigated by legitimate scientists. So what's the big problem with this device?? Maybe it's complete rubbish, maybe not. What we should do is refrain from guessing the outcome or criticising something that hasn't yet been disproved. I say we should all basically ignore Steorn until they can prove their device works. That way, if it is a scam/hoax then at least they won't have got the media attention that they are probably after.
If I could travel back in time and tried to show a 15th Century scientist a mobile phone, I'd be burned at the stake!
By the way... right now my feeling is that this is some kind of hoax. Why didn't they just set up the web-cams in their office and show the experiment working on the net? Time will tell.
I believe such a stunt is perhaps designed to discourage many of the garden variety researchers who are observed to be close enough to real (and therefore dangerous) discoveries, into abandoning their research. Perhaps resulting in an appreciable reduction in monitoring/containment efforts. At this point, only those researchers emboldened by the fiasco into redoubling their efforts would require constant monitoring.
Separating the 'Men' from the 'boys' as it were, and enabling more efficient deployment of 'assets' among the intelligence community.
I mean, something or someone's got to give sooner....or later.
The illusion of control managed by TPTB is much like a cloud....the correct humidity level is critical to avoid keeping that cloud from condensing or evaporating. A job which relevance seems to be fluctuating with increasing amplitude as of late.

Just to add to the ideas being thrown around here: on very small time-scales, energy conservation is violated all the "time" (sorry for the pun). Also, on small spatial scales, it is possible to violate fundamental laws of thermodynamics.
The point is that our macroscopic world is the "averaged" result of ga-trillions of nano-scopic events. So, although these laws can be temporarily violated at the quantum level, they are not violated at the macro-level. Another analogy: it is possible for an electron to tunnel out of a potential barrier, even if the electron has less energy than the barrier presents. That is at the quantum level. It is not possible, however, for me to spontaneously find myself 5 meters to the left of a concrete wall. That is at the macro level.
Compare also to radioactivity. If we have 100 atoms of C-14, we know that roughly 50 of them will have decayed into C-12 after 5,730 years, and the rest of them will still be C-14. However, there is *no way* to tell which of the 100 will be the ones that decay... So, we can predict the averaged (macro) behavior, but not the individual (quantum) behavior.
Just throwing that out there.
Saying that Steorn & Co were sabotaged by oil companies is like saying that chewing gum manufacturers purposefully make their gum run out of flavor quickly so that people will have to buy more of it.
Put it this way. Despite many claims to the contrary, mutagenesis-based progressive evolution has never been observed, but it is inferred based on a large body of evidence that seems to fit (the the best of current mainstream scientific knowledge) with a scientific model. This inference is strong enough that it is almost religiously defended by most scientists.
Likewise, even though there are many problems with temperature equalizations in the cosmic uniform background radiation, most scientists still infer that a Big Bang happened at one point in the past because it fits with their model that all things have gone on in the same way since the inception of the universe.
It is about a billion times MORE likely that the creationists are all correct and the problems with the Big Bang Theory and evolutionary biology are a lot bigger than most scientists think than it is that Steorn's device "breaks the laws of thermodynamics." Perhaps it has devised a way to harness the zero-point field by transferring entropy across the universal energy system through a yet-undiscovered medium. But that's not what they said; they said it disproves those laws. That's bunk.
I mean, come on! At least the creationists have a point when they say that certain assumptions that are most hotly defended by mainstream science (Big Bang cosmology, universal common ancestor derived from abiogenesis, and speciation by descent with modification) all fit a naturalistic, atheistic "worldview" that is antagonistic to conventional morality. But the laws of thermodynamics aren't even conceivably based on assumptions that are antagonistic to anybody's morality; the only assumption that those laws are based on is that the universe is orderly and logical and that we can apply science and reason to figure out the universe around us. Steorn's statement that they have come up with a true "free energy" device that CREATES energy in a closed system is akin to giant blue hippos the size of Neptune that pop up in parts of the asteroid belt and sing Christmas carols shouting "we are breathing air up here and asteroids taste just like lemon pie". It's utterly nonsensical.
I THINK THAT ,AT THIS POINT, WE HAVE TO GIVE
THE LAST CHANSE TO THE STEORN COMPANY.
STEORN HAS TO REPEAT ITS FIRST PUBLIC DEMONSTRATION (WITH MORE ATTENTION FOR ALL THE DETAILS)
IN A FEW WEEKS, WITH ALL THE NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS
REQUESTED (IN ORDER TO SUCCED).
THIS TIME NO MISTAKES WILL BE ACCEPTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-IF STEORN CAN PUT ITS DEVISE IN ACTION,
THE CASE WILL BE REOPEN AGAIN BUT ... IF STEORN
CAN`T EXECUTE ITS SECOND PUBLISH DEMONSTRATION WITH SUCCESS ...THE CASE WILL BE CONCLUSIVELY CLOSED.
SO, WE HAVE TO HAVE A LOT OF PATIENCE...AND FINALLY WE HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BEST WISHES FROM SWITZERLAND.
DR. KATHRINE MARTINEZ-MARTIGNONI
A couple of points while I await the inevitable....
Doesn't it take a lot of energy to make permanent magnets? Is this factored in I wonder?
Check out these guys http://cycclone.us/
it looks like a fraud, it is a fraud.
http://www.cycclone.info/default.asp
there's several fraudalent "magnetomotor" "no fuel" scams on the web.
IF Steorn truly had something....it seems more likely that the full page attention grabbing ad and resulting media attention were designed to lessen the likelihood of a 'black bag' job coming their way. In effect saying to TPTB, it would be better for you to deal fairly with us. The resulting pitiful public display assures us that either some backroom deal was made, or they never had a thing to begin with. Either way, the stunt has got 'Alphabet Soup' written all over it.

I have been following along on the Steorn website since about last September when someone from high school told me about the site. He and I have a bet going and he thinks this will happen before the end of the year. I of course are betting against it. My son is working on a PhD in physics and told me to bet him, that there isn't a chance that I can lose. After all the things that have happened he is still sticking to his story that Steorn will pull this off! I think I am going to be a winner soon!
