The rumor cycle continues to turn, with the iMac the latest to get the ol' speculation treatment. ThinkSecret says that the next iMac will hit in August, and will feature a new, 2-inch thick aluminium enclosure. The new model will reportedly feature a trimmed down chin -- bye bye Jay Leno iMac! -- 20- and 24-inch screens only, and
Santa Rosa CPUs up to 2.4GHz. Before you start buying up metallic-styled peripherals in preparation, you might be wise to take a quick glance at our
iMac rumor tag: if the eventual iMac replacement is nothing like this report, don't say you weren't warned.
If not the MacBook, then waht is the best selling notebook?
Despite Dell and HPs myriad of $500 notebooks. They switch components, designs, model numbers and names faster than you can say hairy monkey balls. For better or worse, it appears that the C2D MacBook is the best selling notebook in the states.
I would like to see a Black Anodized Aluminum housing with an isight camera .
the white is a lot better
It would be nice if they can have their upgraded iMacs rotate from "landscape" to "portrait" mode. Or at least change their whole outdated style up a bit.
To danny,
That's not what apple is going to do currently, at least for this year. With iphone's momentum right now. There's no way for apple to update the ipod which is in a similar category that iphone lives in. Actually i think some apple financial people must have been watching the cannibalization from iphone to ipod lately. However, i do think iphone is more profitable than ipod. Updating imac is the right move this year, and it will follow some iphone innovation in terms of style and user experience.
There's definately going to be a redesign of one or more products in the mac lineup in the coming months.
But brushed aluminium? I thought the problem with that on the mbp was that, with it being very thin and all, it got stupidly hot? On a laptop this is less of an issue, as you aren't expected to use it for the lengths of time you might use a desktop machine, but people tend to leave their iMacs on for long periods during the day, and even overnight. I don't see brushed metal as being the most intelligent material decision.
One thing that would be interesting, would be an auxilliary display that automatically shows you the quicklook version of documents you're viewing, or your music or RSS feeds if you're not in the finder. In fact, that would make a nice DIY project.
I'm hoping this is somewhat true. Currently, if you want to use an iMac and a Cinema display as a second monitor, the pair looks rediculous together. They ginormous chin on the iMac looks wrong when side-by-side with the sexy skinny cinema display bezels. Hopefully, any redesign of the iMac will bring them into line with the design of Apple's other display products.
I might have missed someone else saying this, but THERE will be a redesign and it will be soon (GEEZ the current model is freaking 10 months old.
I am predicting that Apple will release a 10.5.1 update at some point in the future.
