We're not sure what to make of React's claims that current Guitar Hero controllers are "basic" and "uninspiring," since we can think of plenty of rockers who wielded those
classic Gibson shapes, but even still, React's new Reaper Guitar Hero axe looks pretty sweet. The wireless PS2 controller features a J-Bass-on-steroids body shape, glossy black neck and some wild skull graphics guaranteed to intimidate your challengers. No word on price, but React tells us they'll be popping up in Best Buy later this month. Check the read link for some more pics.

Well it looks nice but compared to the rock band guitar...

Honestly, I just can't justify paying extra to make my controller look different like that. Even in a real guitar it's silly, but you sure as hell aren't going to look "awesome" with a guitar hero controller no matter how pimped out it is. It's like putting spinner rims on a tricycle.
Hell, could you make a cheapo version and skip everything except the buttons and the strum bar? I'd kinda like something minimalistic like that.
Pedro @ Jul 7th 2007 1:08AM
I'd love that on my real SG.
Now where's my airbrush?
LukeA @ Jul 7th 2007 1:19AM
That's friggin ugly, IMO.

Give it to me for the 360...

Hey man, if it ain't got a Floyd Rose and some Seymour Duncan's, I'm not game.
How bout you fools pick up a real guitar?
Oh yeah, "that's too hard to learn, wahhhhh!", "I'd rather push some buttons!"
SLACKERS!!!!

I am going to have to agree with frank... You guys might make good morse code operators but hammering away on your overpriced plastic guitar shaped "simon" games is pretty poor. why don't you practice playing guitar hero while playing dance dance revolution at the same time and work off some of the third bag of cheetos you just ate? Slackers indeed.
johnzilla @ Jul 7th 2007 4:34PM
Don't be silly. People don't play Guitar Hero to learn how to play the guitar. They play Guitar Hero BECAUSE IT'S A GAME and some games are fun to play. There's nothing wrong with that.
You must be pretty insecure and have pretty low self-esteem if you need to boast about your (alleged) guitar playing skills compared to someone playing a game in order to feel good.
Alegoo92 @ Jul 7th 2007 12:21PM
That looks pretty sweet
Jeff @ Jul 7th 2007 2:25PM
It's like some 1980's BC Rich metal guitar.
That's not a compliment.
reckless @ Jul 7th 2007 4:01PM
My friend's first bass was some nasty black BC Rich and anytime he handed it to someone he would get all serious and be like, "Careful -- it's pointy."
Sixx @ Jul 7th 2007 2:53PM
"basic" and "uninspiring" LOL
J-Bass or Jag/Mustang rip =D Looks like all they did was get a pic of on of the aforementioned guitars and whipped out the photoshop stretch tool, then hijacked George Lynch's and EVH's paint scheme. Lets seem em make an Auerswall!(lol).

Not agreeing w/ cranky's line up there, entirely, but yet the amount of time spent playing these games could also be used to make a few decent instumentalists. Plus, I hate it when you play a note on that game that doesnt even line up in the timing of the song. That drives me nuts! hehe

I am curious to hear other reviews ABOUT THIS GUITAR. I bought this controller last week and I am not sure about the tilt feature to activate star power. It works about 25% of the time. Not the smooth tilt feature from my wired Rock Guitar II controller. It reacts well in every other way.
The guitar is smooth and shiny; the buttons are smooth and react better than my other guitars. But, it does not have the raised mark on the middle fret button. That I miss. The whammy is quite good on the Reaper.
One note: is that I have only used this guitar on the GH 80's version. I am going to try it on I & II and see how it does. It doesn't specifically say that it is compatible with GH 80's but I don't think that should affect the tilt feature but I guess you never know. Best Buy for $59.95, I didn't think that was a bad price IF IT WORKED!

I have owned this guitar for a couple of days now I must say that React has stepped up their quality. I find the larger weighter style guitar was easier for me, since Im a bigger guy. The strum bar seems to handle the punishment that I can dish out and then some. Along with the stylish graphics, Im a sucker for skulls, and being as the same price as all the others I would buy this one again if I had to choose.

This is an update to my earlier post.
I have played this guitar with GH I & II and 80's. The tilt feature still does not work well with any game. It works about 25% of the time.
NOW the strum bar gets stuck in the up position. The guitar is going back to Best Buy and I will look at other guitars.
Good luck with your Reapers.

Go and buy a wireless guitar from Red Octane. It may cost more, but it is very well-built, and is very simular in-quality to the Red Octane SG, which comes with the bundle.
I am a happy customer.
