Target stores selling PS3 at $499
Listen up boys and girls, if you've been cramming change into your piggy banks and patiently waiting, you'd better go get a hammer, because Target has got your PS3 for $100 cheaper. Hot on the heels of the Circuit City circular rumors, we've gotten word that certain (read: not all) Target stores are offering the Sony game system for $499.99, although it appears that the reduction is making its way through the company's computers. Either Sony is headed towards a price drop, or Target is just being real generous.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Get the cost down to $299 or less and you may start to see more more people willing to buy it. That would give Sony a nice large installed user base and would hence attract more developers along with giving the BLU-Ray format a large leg up on the HD-DVD competition.

Such a price drop would be a big long term double win-win situation for Sony.
I was walking through my local target in Stamford, CT and saw the reduced price. Figured I was going to buy one eventually as there are games comming out in the next several months. Bought it today but will probably sit in the box for a couple weeks before I bother with it.
I was about to say that the 'killer game' for the PS3 could be GTA-IV but I realised that it's for 360 as well.
Okay, Sony, pick up your game! And no, we don't want another Crash Bandicoot/Spyro title!
Cell yealds are up and Blue laser diodes have dropped in price in the last 5 months as well.
Most likely this could be an official drop from Sony so they can compete and please there dwindling 3rd party support before E3.
This E3 is so important for Sony as E3 is becoming less of a spectacle and more or of a developers conference. Going in to E3 with a competitively priced product is as important to developers buying in to the PS3 as it its to the consumers buying into the PS3 as well.
Playstation 3 = Atari Jaguar
people responding say some of the most idiotic things ive ever seen.
you cry about it not having games and the system is less than a year old, lets not forget 360 didnt have anything remotely playable until gears.
and to the idiots claiming stores are clearing out stock, come on now what store is not going to carry that system, when systems give them their accessory margin by attaching movies and games. man people are so misinformed.
this fall and winter the ps3 is going to have alot of games worth playing. do your research before posting crap.
I hate to break it to you but a lot of stores are overstocked with PS3s.
You are right to ask what store wouldn't carry Sit, because nobody is going to stop carrying the P3. They will, however, cut their orders.
Seriously some of these PS3's are catching up with the amount of dust 360 Cores and the GameCubes have. Retailers have confidence that the Nintendo Wii will move fast and also the 360 Elite. Even the PS2 sales are strong at this point. When they contemplate PS3 orders, they have to think about how long those things are going to sit on the shelves, and that never makes a retailer happy.
Maybe Sony should stop shipping for a week to cause mass hysteria about a shortage.
Wow, yeah, I have no idea how that S got up and migrated to part of the word it, but there it is. Let's hope I don't get flamed for that one...
Actually, the 360 did have one "gotta-have-it" game at launch - Call of Duty 2. That game was huge not just because of the next-gen graphics (comparably speaking to the PS2 version at the time), but also because of its online multiplayer modes.
MS has trumped the other systems with X-Box Live. Yes, it does cost money to have the gold membership (whereas Sony's doesn't), but you get what you pay for.
Regardless of what Sony will say to spin this, their launch was not good. As of right now, they still only have one game worth playing - Resistance. And that game is not a Call of Duty caliber game. They have suffered from price, the HD format war, and their uncooperative efforts to assist third-party developers. The cell chip is not easy to design for, and so many would-be exclusive titles have either gone multi-platform (i.e. Devil May Cry) or abandonded the PS3 all together. Why the PS3 will still have a few exclusives (Final Fantasy XIII and Metal Gear), I can't see them standing by Sony as long as their sales figures continue to plummet.
will this be a us only offer or will it stretch over to the eu.
i was about to buy one but luckely they hadn't got any in stock
Im really not a Ps3 type of guy, i got a 360 and a wii, that im doing just fine with, but i have 500 dollars and nothing to spend it on so....what the hell, ill get a ps3. Ps3 has a couple of titles coming out that intrests me...like, heavenly sword, Lair and assassin's creed.
How else are you gonna play Super Stardust HD?
price drop to $500 usd, great, well i hope that the price change goes world wide the aussie ps3 is $1000 au (thats $857 usd) and that is just stupid not when the wii is $400 au and the xbox 360 is $600 au
that is what is stoping sony in australia
cheapest price en Denmark, 4,449kr = $813
for a base unit, no games or movies.
That's with 25% sales tax. Price without tax: $650, and that's with the lowest USD in many years. If the USD was just slightly higher, your Danish price would be better than US.
Has anyone in the SF Bay Area seen the price drop at Target stores? The San Ramon store is still selling the PS3 at $599.
still not worth $500
name another Blu-ray player that retails for $500 (or HD DVD for that matter) and supports 1080p with HDMI 1.3 right out of the box? Some of you guys are seriously on glue...
