Casio Exilim EX-S880, EX-Z77 boast YouTube capture mode

Look out YouTube fanatics, your next digital camera has arrived. Casio's latest pair of Exilims don't deviate much from their predecessors, but a recent agreement with YouTube has enabled the duo to boast a "unique YouTube capture mode," as well as bundle in software "to provide ideal settings for recording, storing, and uploading video." The 8.1-megapixel Exilim Card EX-S880 ($299.99) touts a 2.8-inch monitor, SD / SDHC support, and comes in black or red motifs, while the 7.2-megapixel Exilim Zoom EX-Z77 ($229.99) trims down with a 2.6-inch LCD but arrives in four varying colors. Both cameras' YouTube capture mode records in 640 x 480 H.264, and provides "two step" access to get your clips from the flash card to the web. Look for the video-savvy pair to land in retail outlets next month.

i hope they greatly improved picture quality on these new exilims. i have a 7.1 megapixel one that i got for christmas and the pictures are EXTREMELY grainy, even in sunlight. its frustrating. it wasnt just mine. my friends sister got one also with the same issue and the display one at the store had a crappy picture as well.

the youtube feature is a great idea though.

yes that is true... but you have to make sure... which one you get..
the S-770 vs Z-70 there is a big difference in picture quality... (S-770 does better pics, not great but way better than the Z model)...

i'm planning on getting that s-880 since I my the S-770 went under water a month ago.

*let get this right ... these cameras are not cannon or nikkon. But they are ok for computer pictures and small prints.

So.. this really innovative you tube feature... they basically put a button or menu selection on the phone so stupid 12 year olds who can't really use their camera functions can upload videos...

get a life! just select the resolution you want to record at and record... you tube even tells you all the preferred video settings...

You are _apparently_ unable to grasp that people don't want to futz around with their cameras, read YouTube webpages, and so forth. They want to point, shoot, and upload.

No - i am just smart enough to click a few buttons and make it work... we're catering to a video upload service for what reason? shouldn't they worry about making a quality camera first? then add other stuff to it?

Who said that Casio doesnt make quality cameras? WTF Casio IMO makes great point and shoot cameras - very long battery life, great controls, and menu options.

not sure where people get off dismissing the quality of a product when they have no experience with it.

Oh and just because your smart enough to 'press a few buttons' doesn't mean that it's ok for it to take a 'few buttons' to upload a video - not everyone wants to waste that time uploading videos when one or two buttons will suffice.

I guess your also smart enough to walk up to the TV and use that UHF dial and rabbit ears to tune in a channel. I rather sit back on the couch and press 1 button on the remote.

Sarcasm noted Joseph, but, the hype factor will definitely get it listed on the tech blogs...which will increase it's visibility, at least. Apparently YouTube is the 'It Girl' for 2007.

I've been looking at the Casio digicams that capture wide screen video (864 x 480) in H.264--e.g., AppleTV friendly--so, Casios have been on my radar for a few months.

Just bought the S770 a few months ago. The main reason i purchased it was for the widescreen video, and yes, Youtube is part of that equation. So thats cool they are doing this.

But keep in mind, EVERYONE says this about the S770, the picture quality sucks balls. I use photoshop to edit my photo's and i do a lot of detail work, so perhaps to the average consumer the picture quality is okay. But the noise on pictures taken by the S770 is pretty bad.

I would hope they improved on that with this new S880.

I can see this feature being very handy if it means Youtube does not process your video-clip when they receive it.

Better quality Youtube clips for those naive in computer video work.

I wish more camera makers would start using H.264 for their videos. Even Canon still uses that same inefficient memory hogging M-JPEG codec.

Doubt it. Welcome to "the megapixel myth". Cramming more pixel sensors into a given space doesn't yield better pictures, just more noise...

yehhh right, then why the hell does it record in 640x480? YouTube vids are 320x240 (upscaled in the flash player).

I've owned the Casio EX-S600 for over a year now, and i love the hell out of it, simply for its size, plenty of fetures, simplicity, fast response, and very decent picture quality. My only gripe is the quality of night time / sans-flash photos.
I have not played with the next model, the EX-S770, butI hope this new model improves on them both.
Not just a "youtube feature".

youtube my ass that is SUCH a gimmick. 640x480 H.264 is still WAY too high quality for shitty PQ at youtube, even if the videos are captured at low bitrate. such a gimmick i had no problems just using regular movie mode on my F30 and P200.

I hope the EX-S880 is released in the UK. It looks like it will be...the last DivX versions were not so I will believe it when I see it. August they say...we are almost half way through it and no sign of it yet.
