Will it Blend: the iPhone smoothie
For many of us, during all the hype, rumors, and speculation concerning Apple's iPhone, there was one question nagging at the back of our minds, one question that had gone unanswered until now: will it blend? Well rejoice friends, because the day of reckoning is upon us. Those with heart conditions might want to sit this one out; the rest of you can find out if the iPhone blends after the break.

David McGraw @ Jul 10th 2007 8:06PM
That was hard to watch
dude @ Jul 10th 2007 8:07PM
I think I'm gonna be sick... at least he's got another. If anyone did that to mine I kill 'em. I love how the metal case didn't blend =D.
David McGraw @ Jul 10th 2007 8:08PM
But they scratched the glass!
Zeus the God @ Jul 10th 2007 8:20PM
"dude." Will he blend?
Rowdehaj @ Jul 11th 2007 9:54AM
I don't know what your problem is, I mean really...
brassready @ Jul 10th 2007 8:07PM
To answer the question before you ask, and yes i know you were going too..
NO... it will not play DOOM.. Yes, my heart sank just as much as yours.
treeyos @ Jul 10th 2007 8:08PM
Kick.

David McGraw @ Jul 10th 2007 8:10PM
Do you talk to yourself a lot?
Neil @ Jul 10th 2007 8:13PM
That should have been a crime....sigh.
Paul @ Jul 10th 2007 8:12PM
Was anyone else amazed at how long the iphone stayed turned on during the blend process?
Say what you will about the iPhone, it sure must have some serious durability.
Vwartenbenschnuggen @ Sep 3rd 2007 11:26AM
I did notice that. That's really a decent selling point for apple, and I'm impressed. I am glad they left it on.
Ryan Buchanan @ Jul 10th 2007 10:02PM
Ha... that's why they jumped straight to smoothie. :P
duke @ Jul 10th 2007 8:42PM
im amazed it lasted that long. it took some pretty good hits and was
still playing.
Nomi @ Jul 10th 2007 8:18PM
I dont understand this blending stuff, dont batteries explode and shit. I mean theres probably a capacitor or something in there that explodes, potentially dangerous.
Trevor @ Jul 10th 2007 9:05PM
That was what I was thinking. Also, I like how it is like black ash when it comes out...
derek @ Jul 10th 2007 9:09PM
I think they take out the battery.
Tristan @ Jul 10th 2007 9:14PM
The screen was on jackass
Nomi @ Jul 10th 2007 9:28PM
pwned?
murray @ Jul 10th 2007 9:33PM
"I think they take out the battery."
I love seeing people make themselves look stupid... (did you WATCH the video, dummy?)
@Nomi, there is one Will It Blend where the victim (I forget what it was) does explode. You see sparks fly and the lid even forces Dickson's hand up a bit. I think it's in the opening sequence of most of the older Will It Blends.
I noticed with the iPhone that towards the end, everything suddenly went black. Seems like something in there exploded and a whole lot of fine black powder came out. Maybe the battery?
JSW @ Jul 11th 2007 12:24PM
As someone has done a lot of "destructive testing" on batteries, I think I can pretty confidently say that the "black ash" IS the battery, mostly the carbon substrate of a presumably Li solid polymer battery (just my guess).... AND you definitely should not breath that sh*t since the electrolyte contains some very nasty organic solvents.
William Gu @ Jul 10th 2007 8:20PM
gosh what an amazing blender. blend-tec must make top quality blenders if it can blend an iphone. i think instead of $600 on an iphone, i'm going to buy as many blend-tec blenders as i can.
crazy ass publicity stuff. hey it works, got my attention.
shakeboy2k @ Jul 10th 2007 9:15PM
Umm, $600 will buy you exactly one of those blenders. You all curse the iPhone's $600 price tag...but that's a $600 BLENDER.
Sean @ Jul 10th 2007 11:56PM
Actually, the blender is on sale for $400. So you could buy 1 and a half...
Adrian Williams @ Jul 10th 2007 8:19PM
I thought the iphone glass was unbreakable looks the the real unbreakable glass was the blenders
merit @ Jul 12th 2007 12:55PM
you should check out the video of them shredding 5400 carats of cubic zirconia
FlyLikeAMouse @ Jul 10th 2007 8:20PM
"iSmoke - don't breathe this!" genius.
Z @ Jul 10th 2007 8:19PM
Finally, some worthy iPhone news!
Revrant2394 @ Jul 10th 2007 8:33PM
Cheers to that!
saq @ Jul 10th 2007 8:20PM
As the mighty Blendtec pierced the heart of the evil iPhone with its blade all of the maligned forces contained within burst forth from its unholy trappings in the form of a deep black plume of pure evil.
Señor Swanky @ Jul 10th 2007 8:22PM
I love the end. Reminds me of M$'s Zune business plan.
pathum @ Jul 10th 2007 8:25PM
must have been a 4 GB.
duber @ Jul 10th 2007 8:26PM
Better than sex!
duber @ Jul 10th 2007 8:27PM
Ok, I take it back, but it was still very highly enjoyable! ;)
Dan Boden @ Jul 10th 2007 8:33PM
I love this stuff. First we get a great video, and then all the Apple fanboys/anti-Apple fanboys have a go at each other. The comment section ends up being almost as entertaining as the video. Great stuff.
John Lawless @ Jul 10th 2007 8:57PM
You Maniacs! You blended it! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell!
Mike Morris @ Jul 11th 2007 12:27AM
Nice - it's not often a Planet of the Apes reference gets worked into a comments thread..
Bobo @ Jul 10th 2007 8:37PM
Like any of the iPhone haters wouldn't take a free one (even half blended)..
Hawk @ Jul 11th 2007 2:06PM
only to sell it on ebay!
cirby @ Jul 10th 2007 8:42PM
For those of you complaining about the "expensive" iPhone, he put a $599 iPhone in a $399 blender...
Adam @ Jul 11th 2007 6:10PM
Yeah, but that $399 blender is significantly better than competing models, and it does things they can't. As opposed to a $599 phone that can't even record video or use custom ringtones.
cirby @ Jul 11th 2007 2:19PM
...yet.
Unlike many of those other expensive phones, the iPhone is an actual general-purpose computer that can be upgraded in software.
...and it's still enough easier to use than ALL of the others that the only game they can play is "checklist the features, even though the other phones suck so bad in usability that they might as well not have those things."
Web browsing, for example. I've done head-to-head browsing with other users with those "list" phones, and the guys had so much trouble getting them to work at all they might as well not call them "smartphones."
mcdj @ Jul 10th 2007 8:41PM
If the whole video was real (there was some editing) it's kinda creepy to think the entire case save the bezel was reduced to a toxic black powder.
Chuckles McGee @ Jul 10th 2007 10:03PM
That blender can handle pretty much everything. I agree that it was edited (I think they had it complete the 1 minute smoothie cycle, but cut it down to about a minute in slo-mo), but the blender has ripped apart just about everything else. Amateurs also have played around with the blender- you can find those on youtube too.
Pete @ Jul 10th 2007 8:58PM
I looked for it on eBay and was disappointed..
abiade @ Jul 10th 2007 11:30PM
IMO...anyone who enjoys this should get a life. I watched it out of curiousity, that stupid guy\blenderer should have donated the cost of that iphone to charity or pay a hooker and get laid, looks like he hasnt in awhile!
