It wouldn't really be a Samsung release party without some monitors, now would it? -- and true to form, Sammy included a pair of 22- and 24-inch widescreen models in today's slew of announcements. The 245BW (pictured above) offers up a pretty standard 1920 x 1200 resolution, 5-millisecond response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio (3000:1 dynamic contrast), and 400 cd/m² of brightness, while the 226CW (pictured after the break) also features the expected specs, including 1680 x 1050 res, 300 cd/m² brightness, 1000:1 contrast ratio, and rather snappy gray-to-gray 2-millisecond response time. Sammy is also playing up this latter unit's Wild Color Gamut CCFL backlighting technology, along with each model's suite of Magic-branded fine-tuning options that we're all so familiar with. Both monitors are shipping immediately, with the 24-incher retailing for $550 and the 22-incher asking $380.

how does this compare to the 24" from Dell with the HC variant?
I was about to drop $700 on the 24" Dell but..

I actually bought one of these today, though I'm going to return it because one of the front panel buttons is broken. My impression is that it's an okay quality cheap 24 inch display; it definitely looks worse than my Dell 2001FP, but it's not a bad display by any means (especially compared to the price of the 2407). My biggest complaint would be the vertical viewing angle. It looks really nice cosmetically; probably better than my Dell, though when handling it you can tell it's of a lower build quality. I can't tune this one to match the other display right now because of the broken button, so it's currently way too bright. I haven't decided whether or not I'm going to stay with this model yet. I think I might exchange this one and then decide whether or not to keep the new one after using it for a week or so.

Yep, that's the one. Newegg's had that in stock for a while now.

This is not LED, correct?
Mickey Jones @ Jul 11th 2007 11:47PM
Believe me, if it was LED backlit, it would be in the description (and it would cost a wee bit more).

Soo.. what’s the difference between the 226BW and the 226CW ? Only reason I ask is because of the panel fiasco that the current 226BW is having.
E71 @ Jul 11th 2007 11:36PM
Lot of complaints about the viewing angle on this. Someone even went onto to say the bottom half of the screen is 'a lot' brighter than the top...
Donoban @ Jul 12th 2007 4:17AM
ok Please TELL ME SOMEONE what is the difference between THIS Samsung 245BW (24") and the Samsung 244t (24").
I will like to know wich one was release firt. I look all over the WEB and NOTHING.

Samsung have really dropped the ball with this display. Nobody going to buy a display that doesnt have a hot S.Korean include in the price. I dont want to have to buy the separately.

As far as I can recall, all samsung BW models are TN film panels. TN films have a notoriously horrible vertical viewing angle, and are 6 bit with dithering giving you 16.2m colors. The benefits are cheap production price and fast response times. The T models are S-PVA true 8 bit panels giving you the full 16.7m colors but are a bit more expensive. Response times are higher but honestly not very noticible. For more info go google TN, S-IPS, and S-PVA.

Did you hear about that discovery about the samsung panel mayhem? seems they sell some models monitors with 3 different panels, samsung, AU, and some chinese one, and it's VERY hard to find out what panel is in it but the model number is always the same yet there is a quality difference between the panels obviously.
So now you can't trust reviews on samsung monitors anymore, reviewer gets a samsung panle in it, says it's great, you buy one and it might have a chinese backlightbleeding panel and are unhappy.
TrueDis @ Jul 12th 2007 1:47PM
I'm pretty sure the 245BW isn't new...
Peter @ Jul 13th 2007 5:27AM
The major weakness of the 226BW is the poor vertical viewing angle in which nothing can be done. Also there are 4 panels in the panel lottery.
I've compiled a detailed wiki (all of the issues) of the 226BW on my site, Pigster Wiki:

I just picked up the 226CW today. The only difference between it and the 226BW is the Wide Color Gamut backlight. Samsung has assured that they are now the only company producing the screens for these monitors, which is why the A,C,& S are now gone from the back of the monitor. Its hard to find right now, but I definitely recommend it.
