It's not quite the
PSP 2 some might've hoped for, but Sony is giving its handheld console a serious refresh in the form of a slimmer, lighter and faster "updated" PSP. The new unit still includes the 4.3-inch LCD and UMD, but is 33 percent lighter, 19 percent slimmer, has sped up game load times and improved battery life. The only real "new" features is a video output capability to allow you to play your PSP games on a big screen TV. You can score one in September in the original Piano Black, a new Ice Silver color, and a Star Wars Battlefront special edition. The latter two PSPs come in $199 bundles with related games and a 1GB Memory Stick in the case of Ice Silver. More pics after the break.
Update: Also worth noting is the fact that this new model "is equipped with enhanced feature to temporarily store game data from UMD, reducing load time during game play." No complaints about that!

Anyone know about the internal memory?
I'm not sure some of you even read this article or researched. Those of you saying only thinner and lighter...that's just two improvements. It now also has TV output (which I for one will love), better battery life, faster load times and faster game play with more memory. The price for an UNbundled one is 169.00 the same as the reduced price of the current unit. I can't wait for September!

The improved game loading time is said to be due to the doubling of the internal RAM (from 32MB to 64MB), which allows more of the game data to be loaded from UMD to the internal memory.
AV output cables will be sold separately, and available in composite, S-Video, and component varieties (price TBD).
The new PSP can be charged over USB--opening the possibility that you'll be able to use more generic power adapters, and charge straight from a PC.
i think the new psp is mint. but the weight isn't a problem for me. but playing psp games on the tv with tv output will be so cool. will the new psp work on the normal psp speakers?
What they should have done is forgot about the UMD format alltogether and released games and movies for the PSP on mini Blu-ray discs. Then they would really have good quality.
seems like a pretty good deal. however, i need to know if you can play the regular PSP games on the new PSP. if you cant that may stop me from buying this

I just belive that the psp has not been inproved, just tweaked. you could buy a usb charger at almost ne store and they had a video out put for the psps, that was sold sepretly. just for all u buyers of the new psp just think of it as buying the orginal psp.

What is the output cable used with the current psp? Another question is, I have wireless, will that show up on my tv using the a/v cable from the new psp or is it limited to umd's and movies.
