Quicktime 7.2 patches bugs, adds "Export to iPhone" option
In addition to patching various security holes, it looks like Apple added "Export to iPhone" and "Export to iPhone (Cellular)" presets to Quicktime 7.2 -- making it easy to spit out .m4v or .3gp files optimized for the iPhone's screen and data delivery options. This isn't a huge surprise, since Quicktime gained Apple TV and video iPod presets shortly after those products were released, but at least now compressing your videos to the postage stamp sizes required for them to stream over EDGE is just a click away.

And finally "Support for full screen viewing in QuickTime Player". No more needing to buy Quicktime Pro just to watch things in full screen. Yay!

God, I hate Apple's QuickTime because of that vomitous practice of hijacking all file formats to itself and then unceremoniously putting itself in my Startup list (it always takes me hours to find out WHERE this setting is located and nuke the useless thing).
Stupid little bastard piece of junk.
Fred @ Jul 12th 2007 7:19PM
Oh right because only EVERY other player tries to do that. Every company wants their player to be the main player on your machine. Here's an idea, pay attention when you install an app, dork. You probably have the Google, Yahoo, and whatever else toolbars right on top of each other don't you?
Chuckles McGee @ Jul 12th 2007 7:54PM
Darn you qttask.exe!! And AppleMobileDeviceService.exe!! And iPodService.exe...and iTunesHelper.exe....you just have to be agressive with these things.
Nick @ Jul 13th 2007 9:25AM
"God, I hate Apple's QuickTime because of that vomitous practice of hijacking all file formats to itself..."
because you would prefer to have 10 different media players all playing 10 different formats on your computer? I wouldn't.
"unceremoniously putting itself in my Startup list (it always takes me hours to find out WHERE this setting is located and nuke the useless thing)"
it always takes you hours to find it? One would think that after the first time you would have remembered.
Comacozi @ Jul 12th 2007 7:20PM
but can it run doom?
Asher69 @ Jul 13th 2007 9:54AM
So apparently 'can it run Doom' is the new 'I, for one, welcome *fill in the blank* overlords'?
Just checking, you know, 'cause I want to be in on the hip party to. :)
Comacozi @ Jul 12th 2007 7:32PM
agreed
Luigi @ Jul 12th 2007 7:37PM
Thanks for backing up your statement with pure, 100% fact.
/sarcasm.
I use quicktime alot on my mac. Playing a video in iTunes works perfectly, and file converting is very good. True, the implimentation is a hell of alot better on a mac then a PC, but its far from a piece of crap.
James @ Jul 12th 2007 7:56PM
Windows media player is probably one of the worst widely used pieces of software to date. I doubt anybody with even a remote knowledge of technology uses windows media.
Comacozi @ Jul 12th 2007 8:04PM
but yet you can say you hate ipods and claim that no one uses them either, dumbass
Asher69 @ Jul 13th 2007 9:57AM
True... Friends don't let friends use Windows Media Player.
Use VLC. You'll live longer. And it kills less kittens.
CL @ Jul 12th 2007 8:00PM
I am on a Mac and even I don't use quicktime. VLC is faster, less resource hog and plays just about everything. The only time I use quicktime is playing WMV/WMA files with Flip4Mac.
Mark @ Jul 12th 2007 8:03PM
Chris, you are damn right. In fact it was voted the 2nd most annoying piece of technology EVER (the first one was the AOL installation CDs).
I bet only pathetic loser Mac fanboys dorks like fred like this junk. But hey, there is always an idiot for everything, right.
Comacozi @ Jul 12th 2007 8:05PM
wow i like your style. U knwo how everyone asks if computers can play doom? mine cant:(
Fred @ Jul 12th 2007 8:41PM
Ow! You sure put me in my place didn't you? Yep fanboy is the call of every Bill Gates suck up in the world. Do you know what Mac loser fanboys really like? Hardware and software that just works like it should!
Sent from my iPhone (lol)
Mark @ Jul 12th 2007 8:08PM
Maybe one day Apple can learn a thing or two from Microsoft and its Windows Media Player, which is BY FAR the best media player.
michael @ Jul 12th 2007 11:44PM
Basher. I love WMP 11 a lot too, but you don't have to be such a flamer.
Michael Webster @ Jul 12th 2007 8:28PM
This patch can load DVD movie into iPhone?
If yes, I won't need the DVD to iPhone software.

Quicktime Pro can not convert DVDs.
Chris @ Jul 12th 2007 8:48PM
Uhm...7.2 ???? I think you mean 7.3, more specificly, 7.3.1...
Steve @ Jul 13th 2007 1:06AM
Quicktime is 7.2, and iTunes is 7.3.1
Ratboy @ Jul 12th 2007 9:45PM
Quicktime is 7.2
iTunes in 7.3.1
ray @ Jul 12th 2007 10:40PM
wait... hold on... apple released a security patch? I thought their stuff was hacker proof... so you mean those commercials are lies? When the apple guy was making fun of the windows guy's cold/virus I thought it meant he never could ever get sick ever... oh my... do i feel duped!
Mark @ Jul 12th 2007 11:38PM
Apple NEVER lies! They just distort the truth to fit their purposes...
GuitarRocker2562 @ Jul 12th 2007 10:51PM
Ugh... Windows Media Player sucks, you can't add any H.264 videos to your library, and that is THE most popular video standard for portable devices (iPod, PSP, and I think even the Zune use it.) Quicktime is only bad software because it doesn't play DVDs or DivX/ Xvid, however, I must say I love the encoder, it isnt the fastest, but it produces an excellent quality video.
Mark @ Jul 12th 2007 11:49PM
$teve Job$ really managed to tap in the idiocy of Mac-fanboys. Congratulation for him on finding suckers to profit from. :-)
grjohnston @ Jul 13th 2007 12:50AM
Okay, so, to completely ignore all the flaming going on above... because, pretty much everyone up there is just wasting everyone's life, even their own...
Did anyone notice where it says, Movie to 3G? ... Like, 3G cellphone protocols/network/whatever? When iPhone doesn't have it? Or is that something completely different that I had no idea about?
Micha10589 @ Jul 13th 2007 1:54AM
Back to topic: So can QT 7.2 now make an Movie to iPod conversion without extremely pushing up the datarate? Would love to use it but the files just get too big. At the moment I'm using iSquint, but here the converted files always look a bit darker.
plh2034 @ Jul 13th 2007 5:19AM
God i love this site.
Anytime the word apple is mentioned the comment section goes into full scale geek bi*ch-slapping warfare.
It's like watching a pro-life vs. pro-choice rally only gayer
K @ Jul 13th 2007 9:59AM
I just installed this today on Vista...It starts then dies right away..craptastic vista nad iTunes sucks.
allens555 @ Jul 17th 2007 1:56AM
this isn't news. iphones are gay and overrated.
csipvc @ Sep 15th 2007 2:41AM
You can watch your DVDs on your iPhone after you convert them to iPhone format. I did it easily after I downloaded the Cucusoft iPhone Video Converter suite at http://www.iphonevideoconverter.biz/. It's really easy to use and works great!
