The PEBL lives: Motorola to add ROKR U9

Though the original PEBL didn't get quite the love Motorola may have liked (Maria Sharapova special edition notwithstanding), it seems they're looking to give it at least one more go with the upcoming U9 model. Presumably designed to slot in alongside the RAZR 2 V8 / V9 models, Phone Scoop reports that the U9 will be ROKR branded, indicating a strong music tie-in. Other details are sketchy, though there's speculation that the "9" designation in the model number indicates that 3G is in the cards; for Motorola's sake, we hope that's true.

The problem with the PEBL was that it didn't actually have any features. It was just an oval with a useless external screen and a crappy camera.

Completely agree. This phone was a good design with a crap interior. I might actually consider this if it has US 3G and expandable memory. Then again, I would be happy with anything other than an iPhone.

That shiznitty boner phone isn't fit to carry an iPhone's jockstrap. Why? Because it's made by Motorola and they only design one decent frickin' phone every other decade. If they give it a 9 designation, then that's about how many they'll sell worldwide. Motoeffinrola. I hope Zander swallows that PEBL and chokes before they fire his butt back to whereever it came from.

Motorola is actually very good a designing things. Their phones are almost always well engineered and well built. Btw, Motorola sells a huge number of phones worldwide, albeit many of them at a very low cost. So the above comment of "9" is completely idiotic.

Hmm, yes. But the problem with iPhone is that it's a turd polished by sweet sweet words and hype, but it's still a turd. I'll take this over the iPhone any day of the week.

They should make this a slider with the same PEBL design but slide :) Then the first screen should be touch and the insides only needed to be open to make a quick call or something.. Otherwise 3G is not a must on anything other than a smartphone but it better have expandable memory..

i find it hilarious that ppl feel they have to make disparaging remarks about other cell phones (iPhone), when the topic is about the PEBL. They are the same ones that complain about coverage of the iPhone, then go ahead and keep harping about it with their inane remarks.

On theh Chinese Motorola website... I found a new model of the PEBL. I have the MOTOPEBL U6 and on this website, it lists a Motorola PEBL U6c! The links for everything are at the bottom.
