Intel and OLPC join hands in collaborative harmony
Revived from the depths of "no way this will happen," Intel has gone and shook hands with OLPC, disregarding prior quibbles and announcing that the two will "will explore collaborations involving technology and educational content." Presumably deciding that two heads were better working together than butting into one another, both firms have agreed to "bring the benefits of technology to the developing world through synergy of their respective programs." Phil Otellini, Intel's CEO, went so far as to state that joining forces with OLPC is just another example of his company's "commitment to education," and while absolutely no elaboration was given on what exactly the duo planned on completing together, at least we now know to be on the lookout.

It's Paul, Paul Otellini. Not Phil. I should know, I work at the Intel Museum!

NO MORE HEART ICONS BETWEEN TWO COMPANY LOGOS
You guys seriously do this at least a couple times a week. Some brainstorming might do you wonders for creativity. How about a starving Ethiopian hugging an Intel logo? Not only is this more humorous, it also gives insight into some of the irony of giving third world countries cheap laptops.

I think you are missing the point of the OLPC...

Believe me, I understand the "pont" of the OLPC. Yet, Intel is prepared to millions of dollars worth of sacrifices... when they could actually save lives by donating that money to organizations like the Red Cross. Don't you think they these children should get food before they get laptops?

This can only mean one thing: Dual Core OLPC with TWO cranks! It's twice as good as running into Larry Brown in the locker room at your local gym.

Cool, Intel has a new CEO.
Does Phil Otellini means Paul Otellini + Phil Schiller?

Does anyone else just think Intel should have just kept its ass out of the OLPC game? Its not like they were clamoring to be such do gooders for the last 30 years or anything. But the Nick Neg does a genuine, humanitarian thing, and Intel sees a chance to make more money. BOOOOO!
I am all for capitalism, but give me a fuckin' break. I think the OLPC is a great, grand cause, and can have children around the world learning computing without being locked into MS Office-- who knows what kinds of wonders these kids will grow up and produce after being inspired by these computers they use as kids?
Or, should we just force them now to learn Powerpoint, Excel, and Word. Isn't there time for that prison later? Screw creativity and being different, right?
Intel, get the fuck out of what you obviously don't really care about anyway. Negroponte is doing the best he can and obviously has to dance with the devil on this--- shit like this really pisses me off!!

hmmmm, if OLPC gets in bed with Intel, what will happen to AMD?
3rdsun @ Jul 14th 2007 3:11PM
