Apple store is down
That's right, the US and Canadian Apple stores are down. However, other international sites are still up. Of course, any outage usually means they'll return with new product. So get the product juices churning and sound off with your best bets in the comments below. Then check back in an hour or two when we'll know for sure.Update: Er... it's back without any noticeable updates. We'll keep digging but this looks like a non-event.

And if it was simple site maintenance, what then, oh purveyors of the hype?
Thomas Ricker @ Jul 17th 2007 6:58AM
Of course you could be right. But... it's tuesday, it's almost 7am new york, and Apple is due for refreshes throughout their product lineup. To memory, the site has gone down only once in the last year to return without product and that was on the 11th when the site returned with a new look and feel in support of the iPhone launch and Leopard.

Point ceded, Thomas.
Joe @ Jul 17th 2007 8:18AM

Ian @ Jul 17th 2007 9:04PM
What Thomas said wasn't even true, but OK. I guess if you don't know better.

Jerome @ Jul 17th 2007 6:50AM
iPods, please !!!
Totalfixation @ Jul 17th 2007 6:55AM
highly doubt it, and highly wouldn't be possible without the announcement coming out of Mr. Jobs own mouth.
Joe @ Jul 17th 2007 7:42AM
God, I will go to church. I will spread your word. I will die on a cross. I may even put your music on it- if there is a new iPod.
Shane Harley @ Jul 17th 2007 7:00AM
Let's hope new ipods!
I realised today that I've had mine for a little over a year and a half. Didn't realize the 5G had been out that long
Grandalf @ Jul 17th 2007 6:59AM
perhaps a new AQD lineup or new iMac's ... please be both
Jimbo @ Jul 17th 2007 7:16AM
I'm betting on those new iMacs. Overpriced and ugly :(
ian9outof10 @ Jul 17th 2007 7:04AM
It's 2007. Should they not be capable of launching a new product in the store without taking the whole thing down for hours.
netgem21 @ Jul 17th 2007 7:07AM
Of course they can! But it wouldn't be as exciting would it? :)
Peter @ Jul 17th 2007 7:35AM
This is just for us.. :) They want excitement
Derek @ Jul 17th 2007 7:07AM
Of course, but this way they can build up some last minute hype in advance. Lord knows, everybody who has replied here is wondering "what could it be?" and is paying attention. That's what Jobso wants.
ian9outof10 @ Jul 17th 2007 7:13AM
Oh yes, sorry. I forgot about the free publicity we all give them.
Eric @ Jul 17th 2007 7:02AM
I think it's new iMice, or possibly a 100GB iPood.
skidz @ Jul 17th 2007 7:19AM
you're an ipoo'ed
Eric @ Jul 17th 2007 7:36AM
That's an appropriate comment for someone called "skidz"

i wee'd a little also...
CessoAnhelo @ Jul 17th 2007 7:05AM
You never know, maybe they bought Avid or Adobe or something useful....or are going to add Ubuntu as an option.
Eric @ Jul 17th 2007 7:08AM
If Apple buys adobe, I'm changing professions. Adobe's software is already expensive enough.
Edward G @ Aug 7th 2007 8:43PM
It should be them announcing that anyone who buys a mac now gets a coupon for a free upgrade to Leopard when it comes out.
Rich @ Jul 17th 2007 7:06AM
$249 iPhone! ;)
Justin Williams @ Jul 17th 2007 7:08AM
Its probably just AppleCare for the Iphones. Maybe and upgraded Imac. I wish it were a new mac mini.

Chris Macdonald @ Jul 17th 2007 10:25AM
There are different time zones in the world, eh?
Chris Macdonald @ Jul 17th 2007 10:28AM
(as you may have guessed, i'm in a Canadian one)
netgem21 @ Jul 17th 2007 7:20AM
Does anyone remember what happened on this day 5 years ago? Yes, it was Macworld NY. And they announced the following:
Apple Unveils 17-inch Flat Screen iMac
Apple Introduces iSync
Apple Introduces iCal
Apple Unveils New iPods
Apple Announces iTunes 3
Apple Introduces “Jaguar,” the Next Major Release of Mac OS X
Epson, HP & Lexmark Support Apple’s Rendezvous Technology
Apple Announces Mac OS X “Jaguar” Server, World’s Easiest-to-Manage UNIX-Based Server Software (Images)
Apple Launches .Mac
Apple to Open Its First Retail Store in New York City
Maybe this is some sort of 5 year anniversary or something, or I'm looking into this too much :D
Mac Man @ Jul 17th 2007 7:21AM
I don't see it being anything of major excitement. Anything "revolutionary" would need a keynote or speech of some sought.
Mac mini refresh, or maybe the cinema displays.
Demerest @ Jul 17th 2007 8:32AM
Yeah, I tend to agree. But if it's hardware related, why not all Apple stores?
Ali @ Jul 17th 2007 7:44AM
New ipod.
Nick @ Jul 17th 2007 7:32AM
I'd just love a 6th Gen iPod. Available in the UK too xP
Heller @ Jul 17th 2007 7:37AM
12" MacBook Pro!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gabe @ Jul 17th 2007 7:36AM
So, who is just sitting there hitting the refresh button?
1. (This means I am, follow suit!)
Nick @ Jul 17th 2007 7:46AM
Guilty.
neil @ Jul 17th 2007 7:39AM
how about Bluetooth iPhone Headset release?
