Apple store is down
That's right, the US and Canadian Apple stores are down. However, other international sites are still up. Of course, any outage usually means they'll return with new product. So get the product juices churning and sound off with your best bets in the comments below. Then check back in an hour or two when we'll know for sure.Update: Er... it's back without any noticeable updates. We'll keep digging but this looks like a non-event.
[Thanks, Pavel S. and everybody who sent this in]

@ Gabe -- 2. Me too!!
Hell, while we're waiting I'll go out on a limb.
Revamped .Mac with Google integration. After all, it's a US / Canada update only.

Maybe they went down to ship my Macbook Pro? Ordered one month ago, still no Macbook.....
iPhone update...
New iLife. This seems to be the only "major" thing that can be updated without Jobs himself talking about it. If that is not the case, then I think we will see some other "minor" updates (faster processors on some models and so on).
I only hope, for the ones who bought it, that Apple is not releasing an "update" to the iPhone as they did with the AppleTV (update just a week or two after release)....
Like a 10 or 15 Gb iPhone :-)
Usually when Apple only takes US and Canada stores down, they release some performance upgrade, that gets then released worldwide not much time after that.
PS- Swiss store is up and running fine. France as well
Store is back up and doesn't look like anything changed. Could have just been maintenance.
Yea, no change that I can see. :(
Added Bluetooth headset preorder
I say maintenance. Oh well.
*goes back to bed*
But still:

The new product the iPhone bluetooth headset. Now available for order. That wasn't on the store previously, correct? Was hoping to see what the iMac was going to look like.
Sweet they just released an new 3" usb cable !
;)
New MacTv 160GB for 399.00
larger Apple TV hard drive, 160 gb
...the all new i-Apple - it's an apple with a firewire cable shoved into it... I don't know what it's for, but OMG I want 10 of 'em!
Slow news day?
wow... what an awesome comment!!!! I've never heard anyone say that before!!!! You are SO WITTY!!!!!!!
Actually, it was a question old bean.
Store is up, and Nothing new :(
iPoodle tamagotchi's please.
The 160GB harddrive on the Apple TV was there before. Don't remember when it was released but it's been there a few weeks.
Oh wow, I think they released a phone
Although site is back up with nothing noticalble, Macworld is too far away to say "Macworld is coming up" in regards to Apple releases. Both the iPod Nano and iPod Video were announced and released in September '05. Apple TV was announced in September '06 well before it's ship date.
Lately Apple's been stepping away from the Macworld/WWDC formula for announcing and releasing new products.
Today wasn't one of those days. I doubt they'd do anything big without a press event...
They updated the education store. Before you couldn't order the iphone directly from there, but now you can. No discount though :(
Why do they always take the site down to add updates? I mean, its not like they can't get them ready on a development server and then just flip a switch to get them into production.
At most the site should go down for a couple minutes until they switch the databases over, not hours. What kind of incompetent boobs do they have over there running their servers anyway?
Because it gets hysterical (and free) press from morons like iEngadget and iGizmodo, that's why.
There's a lesson here, you Apple-obsessed morons.
Don't react to something until AFTER SOMETHING ACTUALLY HAPPENS.
What a complete non-story waste of time and space.....
What do you mean, "slow news day"? They do this EVERY time the Apple store is down, slow day or not.
Hold the front page! Start wildly speculating now! Apple's website is down!
C'mon fellas, this Apple fanboy stuff is getting out of control now. Why not give us news when *you've actually got some* rather than filling up your pages with non-stories like this?
PS Why don't you spend less time trying to force your head up Apple's a$$ and instead report something like, oh, I don't know, the new PSP attachment which lets Japanese owners watch digital TV on their handheld.
You know, tech news.
How much are Apple paying you guys, by the way?
the system is down..the system is down. doo doo de doo doo..
i don't know why that head line made me thing of strongbad.
ITunes 7.3.1 is up
One thing I noticed is that on the corporate apple store site for employee discounts, is that the banner for the iPhone doesn't direct you to go to the main apple store site to buy the iPhone. Instead you now can buy it on the corporate apple store set for employees discounts, however the iphone has retained it's retail pricing-no corporate employee (non-Apple employee)discounts yet.
Slow news day?
i was hoping for the compact macbook pro. oh well.
the day is still long.
If the site goes down whenever they add new products, they need to hire new web developers, pronto! (And get a new CMS).
Wow, Apple reduced all of the Canadian Apple store prices in line with the US to Canadian dollar exchange rate (95c US). MacPro was $2799, is now $2629!!!
Ooops, just my imagination.....
Wow... News on a website going down? I've never heard of that happening! Front page material!
Perhaps instead of causing all of this hype for nothing and something so dumb, wait until after the store is up and post about it... Keep an eye on it perhaps, but don't post about it when it's NOT news...
OMG maybe a new Apple product! Seriously guys, do you hurry to make a post when the Dell store goes offline because a new product might come up, or would you more rationally wait until there was actually something to talk about? A lot of claims have been made about Engadget's Apple obsession and you're not doing your best to make it appear otherwise.
