Intel roadmaps Penryn for mobiles
A recent leak from Intel has revealed the chip-maker's plans for its Penryn mobile processor line, detailing all the sweet news in a roadmap which has made its way into the waiting public's hands. On the sheet are the details of four new Core 2 Duo chips and one new Core 2 Extreme that Intel will be shepherding into the market in the near future (or so we hope). All of the chips feature the Santa Rosa-standard 800MHz frontside bus, with the C2Ds clocking in at 2.5GHZ and 2.6GHz with a 6MB cache, or alternately 2.1GHz and 2.4GHz with a 3MB cache -- the C2E delivers 2.8GHz with a 6MB cache. No word on pricing or availability, but you'll know as soon as we do.[Via Reg Hardware]

800MHz frontside bus? My toaster has a faster front side bus. Plus it toasts stuff.

that means our new computers are gonna get obsolete pretty soon!!!
LOL nice picture of a mobile chipset...
I hope they get into MBP's soon. I really want a Mac!
That guy is actually holding a NASA pizza cooker prototype.
Meanwhile, in other news: AMD has no news. :(
I read this post because I thought "roadmap" = timeline. Oh well.
But I'm interested in the 3MB & 6MB caches, everything's always in powers of 2 so I thought it had to be. Any insights into if there is a cool change: this isn't tri-gate transistors or anything is it?
They are still in powers of 2... the actual numbers are: 3,072KiB and 6,144KiB...
I wonder if the Santa Rose C2D Laptops with 1.5 processors will be able to be upgraded as a drop in with these newer 2.5 ones.
man... my core duo lappy is looking more like a piece of shit everyday...
F**K!
Hey Keaton,
I'll still trade you for it any day. My Celeron Lappy is outpaced by my mobile.
Hey, you could just use an os that doesn't have to gobble up every little bit of processing power that you throw at it...
That's what I did for the laptop I'm using now. It only has 256 mb of ram, but hey, it runs great, and I may want to run things like compiz fusion or google earth at higher frame rates, but really- it does everything I truly need it to do.
Oh yeah- Linux- in case anyone here didn't pick that up immediately...
LoL Ethan2, I thought you were going to say windows 95!
