Sony's flashy PMX-M70 PMP snapped in the wild
We know, yet another sexy device that will likely never hit American shores, but honestly, this thing was undersized (capacity wise) from the get-go. Of course, the futile mind tricks we play in order to convince ourselves that it wouldn't be nice to have Sony's PMX-M70 over here in North America won't stop us from ogling over live photographs. Thankfully, the folks over at IMP3 were able to wrangle up a few shots of the device in the wild, and while there's no news in regard to spec changes, feel free to click on through to see what you'll (likely) be missing.

PMX-M70+iPod=Heaven!!!!!
The screen is huge!!! If it had 80GB of HDD storage i would get that in a heartbeat if it came to the U.S.
ark_v2 @ Jul 20th 2007 5:00PM
2 GB, WTH?!
It's sexy, as expected from sony, but 2 GB, that's just pathetic (even with the 8 GB model, that's just too little for a gadget this size). Give it a HDD and will sell as pie. And those earphones aren't like the psp ones? lol
anthony @ Jul 20th 2007 5:08PM
This photo illustrates why Sony will never again penetrate the gadget segment that they once claimed the thrown to. This is a REALLY nice looking device, but that Sony logo harkens back to the hay day of an outdated electronics company from the 20th century. You might be able to throw a Samsung or even an LG logo on there and I bet you'd sell at least 50% more.
Poom @ Jul 21st 2007 4:38AM
-_-" Do you have any reason in saying that? I think it's the other way around. Although Sony may be performing badly, the brandname still sells many of its products. Even though Samsung's products aren't that different from Sony's, people still get the impression that Sony's products are better. No, I'm not talking about all the sony haters here, I'm talking about average people. That's actually why Sony can still sale many of its product at a higher price than others...

Another iPhone look stealer.
Firebird @ Jul 21st 2007 1:38AM
Another uninformed kool-ade drinking apple fanboy.
nate @ Jul 20th 2007 5:28PM
that doesn't look anything like the iPhone. you're just an idiot fanboy.
Loonie @ Jul 20th 2007 5:59PM
No, nate! YOU are the... not... fanboy! Just look at the similarities:
- They both have a screen! Not only that, but the screen is flat, and in color!
- They both use electricity! Oh, what a coincidence. Except that they both get their electricity via a battery! Still think it's a coincidence?
- They both manipulate and display data! And it just so happens to be binary data!
- I have a headache!
maciej @ Jul 20th 2007 11:23PM
yes an iPhone stealer...what a doorknob, everything that has a screen and runs on electricity that will be released in the future IS an iPhone knock-off...idiot
Neoleeyennek @ Jul 20th 2007 5:20PM
Nice pmp there too bad it might not come to the usa
felix @ Jul 20th 2007 5:28PM
Probably has something to do with Apple buying up all the flash memory chips.
Castle @ Jul 20th 2007 5:42PM
Looks great, simple makes the best design.
If Sony can release it at a reasonable price and offer something larger then 2GB(I'm sure they will), this could be a killer device.
KC @ Jul 20th 2007 7:26PM
If you had clicked on the link and read, you would have seen "Capacity: 2, 4, and 8GB".
AG @ Jul 20th 2007 6:01PM
I would so buy one of these if I can find an importer. I still use a Sony HMP-A1 (20 GB PMP) and it looks nice, but I think I want a new toy soon =)
zargon @ Jul 20th 2007 8:03PM
It has nothing on the Archos line up, especially the 605 Wifi and 705 Wifi. Plus it uses Sony's near worthless proprietary memory format... no thank you.
If you are looking for a PMP, you could do better than this. Good thing they aren't even bothering bring it state side...
i luv nose candy @ Jul 20th 2007 9:14PM
No hard drive? What's the point? Last time I checked this was the 21st century. I've been using a hard drive equipped PMP for nearly 2 years and have to laugh when I see a "new" PMP announced that uses memory cards. Get with the program Sony!
SteveMB @ Jul 20th 2007 10:34PM
Jeez, are you guys too lazy to post the capacity of the players now?
Xyr @ Jul 21st 2007 3:32AM
This Player is designed by Sony China, and it won't be sold outside China. It's made for China.
It has a 8g memory, and a memory stick slot, and you don't need SonicStage to transport Mp3 file.
Sorry for my poor English.
Poom @ Jul 21st 2007 4:40AM
O_O Where did you get the info from? Now that makes it interesting... No SonicStage!!
Xyr @ Jul 21st 2007 5:13AM
@Poom
I get it from Sony China, the address is www.sony.com.cn/electronics/P_audio/m70/specification.asp
I'm in China, and it is on sale now.
The 8g version is 2799rmb(349 dollars)
Jay @ Jul 21st 2007 5:59AM
If Engadget stuck an Apple logo on this and painted it white then most of you would be absolutely wetting your knickers and counting your pocket money right now.
But, of course, it's Sony - so the hate gets spewed or complete ambivalence is proffered. What, are you all Jason Chen?
Jay @ Jul 21st 2007 6:00AM
PS ...but nice to see some Sony love here, on iEngadget.
gimmeadollr @ Jul 25th 2007 9:54AM
Hey I saw this in a store a few days ago (i'm in china)
