I don't see something like this catching on. Even if they can figure out how to build that small of a CO2 sequestering device, it will restrict exhaust far more than a catalytic converter and muffler do. Your average American isn't going to trade horsepower for reduced emissions.
Notice I said reduced emissions, not fuel efficiency. While fuel efficiency increases have immediate and direct cost savings for the consumer, reduced emissions and global warming are too vague of notions for most people to really care about. If anything, the backpressure caused by a carbon sequestering device would reduce engine efficiency.
That said, if they can cost effectively replace a muffler and catalytic converter with this without a significant increase in backpressure, as in creating a miracle device, sign me up.
It sounds like you know alot more than me about cars but I read this from an other article covering the same story and remembered your comment.
"Although the box the men currently use for demonstration is about the size of a bar stool, they say they can build one small enough to replace a car exhaust that will last for a full tank of petrol."
