Custom-made God of War PSP up for auction
While it may not be to everyone's taste, this one-of-a-kind God of War PSP is certainly an impressive bit of console modding, boasting not just a spiffy paint job, but a few additions that dig into the PSP itself. Those include a red acrylic window on the rear of the unit that'll let you see the UMD spinning, as well as some red LEDs that light up the PSP's two shoulder buttons (head on over after the break for some more pics). Only the most die hard God of War fans need apply here though, as last we checked the bidding was around the $1,200 mark. On the upside, 15% of the final sale price will go to the Child's Play charity, and you'll also get that classy velvet-lined case to display your new prized possession in.

here are more pics, I think it could look better...if someone expects such a high price it shouldn't look home made.

Is it modded?
They claim it has 1.5 firmware. Sony makes games on the Mac you know?
Modding is great, it adds so much more to a PSP.
Why would anyone prefer a DS over a PSP, when a PSP can emulate basically all Nintendo games, including a large section of N64 games?
And thats not what's exciting, but running UMD rips off the MemoryStick with a custom firmware is bliss. So many games..
Too bad the PSP's sold now have to remain "stock"... until someone releases another downgrader that is.
The DS still ain't got jack on it.
No dead pixels.
@ Low
No dead pixels... well, actually very few pixels are ever dead (on any similar displays aswell), they are simply locked.
Thankfully you have 3 options
1) Run the pixel unlock video on high brightenss for 30 min from the PSP
2) Exchange it
3) Deal with it
Like it or not, it would simply be irrational to disagree that this product's benefits greatly exceed its disadvantages, especially when compared to a DS.
I am not a fanboy, I have both the PSP and DS. The only feature extra feature the DS has is a touchscreen.
It actually has a large selection of enjoyable games, minus load times.
I own both portable.
I have 3.40 OE-A on my PSP.
I've a flash cart for my DS Lite.
I use my DS Lite about four times more than my PSP.
@ melloncollie
Well, happy gaming on your DS. Whatever makes you sleep at night.
That doesn't change the fact that the PSP has way more features, available games and mods. Also being powerful, with processing speed similar to that of a Pentium II and a decent internet browser, it just makes it much better.
BTW the DS Browser is painfully slow and is limited to Text and Images @ 28.8 kb/s..
As for load times, this is highly exaggerated as is, but considering that the PSP is basically a Portable PS2 (Hence the name ;) it makes sense.
Also, I must add that the load times are seemingly faster for PSP ISOs from the MemoryStick, and the battery life has lasted me more than 6 hours playing them.
P.S. I use my 3yr old Motorola cell phone for games about 10x more then I do the DS, and even it has a higher clock speed then the DS..
@Davey Jones,
Actually, now you can downgrade no matter what Firmware you have. The limiting factor is now the PSP version. All 3000s and the 2000s with a specific motherboard can not be modded using this way though. They have to use chickHen instead.
That is sick as hell but I be damned if I was going to spend over a grand on a PSP. But I am buying the FF VII: Crisis Core PSP Slim when it launches in japan in Sept.
If I had millions of dollars lying around, I'd get it. Oh, wait? Of course I do. I'm CEO of Apple Inc. This looks interesting. Maybe we should start selling a thinner iMac with a brushed aluminum case in August and discontinue the 17" model. Don't worry, there'll be a new, super slim 15" iMac.
Are you sure your user name isn't Non sequitur?
Let me be the first to say...
that's the coolest thing I've seen in a long time.
damn cool... then again someone has way too much time on their hands.
not if he starts making money off of this
I'm not attracted to God of War, nor am I attracted to the PSP, but I am attracted to that.
Incorrect...it states that it has 1.5 firmware yet it has a wallpaper. it must be homebrewed then.
that has to be the ugliest thing i have ever seen. is it just me, or can anyone else see glue around the emblems on the back in the close up shots? Plus the analog control on the bottom left (mini one) looks messed up and off center.
That's some mighty expensive fimo and hot glue. I hope no one is deluded enough to think the thing is an investment.
Makes me want to check the veracity of those bids. Or quote P.T. Barnum or something.
Crappy paint job, lousy glue job but neat idea.
Looks like a goatse PSP to me, amirite?
But does it have custom firmware so you can play any PS1 game?
Does this at all remind anyone of the Southpark episode where Kenny is determined to be the chosen one and must use a magical PSP in order to defeat the armies of Satan?
Behold, the Golden PSP. The Battle of Heaven and Hell is nigh. Now all we need is a Keanu Reeves...
Wow.
It's like a prop from Zena or something.
DS doesn't run GoW. Of course you could Marioize a DS but it wouldn't look nearly as cool.
Looks nice.... but nice as in "nice for collectors" or "nice for showing off".
I wonder how much it adds the PSP's weight.
And please PLEASE, no portable console wars here, k?
dude, if someone sees you playing with that thing in public, they WILL steal it.
not if they are produced by the trillions. the british goverment will give every legal citizen one of these things for ***FREE*** way 2 go sony and mr.modder!!
Ahem... FUGLY!!!!... cough...
it DOES remind me of the PSP Kenny used to defeat the Armies of Satan in South Park.
Except this would of been the one Cartman used to battle Kenny.
Now that I would of been funny.
@ Davey Jones:
Despite all those hardware prowess of the PSP, I hope you now understand that those specs don't matter a bit, if the consumer doesn't like the content and how you operate the thing. That's why the DS is outselling the PSP for years now.
Apparently, people love the casual games and the touchscreen of the DS. No matter how fast the PSP runs.
It makes me want to put LEDs into my shoulder buttons. Anyone know where there's a guide?
