See that? That's the rumored, "
super slim,"
brushed aluminum keyboard said to be accompanying Apple's new iMac computer. It certainly appears to share the key design of the MacBook like we heard but seeing "Photoshop" in the exif data doesn't give us a high degree of confidence here. Regardless, a forum jockey over at the
Rhapsody Apple forum in Hong Kong will sell you the keyboard (s/he has more than one) for 1,200 of the local stuff or about $153.40. Word to the wise, the consensus amongst rumor sites shows the new iMac coming as early as
August 7th so you might want to hold onto that wad for a few more days to see what happens. We've got a bigger version of that image above along with the Apple development team sticker
reportedly affixed to the backside of the unit in the gallery below.
Update: Full-sized image (and plenty more) just received from our tipster. You know, we
're starting to believe that this is the real deal. But did they really remove the Apple logo from the command key?
[Thanks, Hacken L.]
I have a bad habit of smashing keyboard on things, mostly accidentally, sometimes in search of catharsis. As shiny as this is, if it was ever released, I don't think it would be cheap enough for me to make the investment *eyes the stack of 5 USD no name keyboards on the shelf*.
Bahaha, does that sticker on the back not look unbelievably fishy to anybody else? The apple symbol is completely out of proportion. Not cosmetic unit...ENGRISH. My 2c
my feelings on all the changes to the keyboard and with the apple logo removed from the keyboard related to the OS being so flexible on these new Macs. You can run windows, linux and OS X on the thing. Its probably easier to have a keyboard that is more universal. Also I don't like it that there is a button on my keyboard with two symbols that don't make any sense...
it lookes like its made of paper
It looks the keyboard on the Tandy/RadioShack Color Computer 3 (CoCo3) =P
BTW: New iMac design revealed: http://oriesko.rajce.idnes.cz/temp/images/iMac_2007.jpg
This looks stupid. If its brushed aluminum, wouldn't it get cold, like my aluminum PowerBook?
Also why has it got up to F19 keys???
I hope we won't have to click fn-F9 to get to Exposé, that'd be shithouse.
well, why dont we just wait what... THREE DAYS. you guys should shut up and check the feeds of the unveiling on the seventh.
Where are the USB ports? When I changed my PC to Mac one of good things was USB placed in the keyboard. The easiest way to connecting pendrives. I love it.
As the keyboard's now confirmed -- Jobs even joked that "maybe you've seen it on the Web" in his presentation -- I guess it puts to be the validity of these photos. That being said, the USB ports are underneath, on the left and right, like they were in every recent iteration except the white keyboards we've had until just now. Look in the pics and see the boxes that add to the keyboard's angle (which looks a lot lower... is this thing going to be comfortable?)
Now I see it. Seems that it has two funcions: usb ports and keyboard leveling.
I guess the joke is on all of us: this IS the real iMac keyboard!
Now that we know this is real, here's something to consider:

This is the keyboard for the old ZX spectrum. It's square-keyed, minimalist, and has almost no tactile feedback. It also got a reputation for being a true piece of shit to type on.
They made keyboards this way because it was cheaper than real keys, not because it was stylish!
LOL@all of you who insisted this was fake. Go back to the lab.
"It's fake, because I KNOW it is, darnit and I'm ALWAYS RIGHT". You fucking gimps, you were WRONNNG, and it is GREAT!!! morons.
