Sony patent shows the SIXAXIS getting friendly with a PSP
So the PSP "lite" didn't exactly usher in a golden age of dual analog stick gaming that many Sony fans have been pining for, but it looks like a stop-gap savior might be in the works all the same. Sony has applied for a patent to hitch its DualShock or SIXAXIS controllers to the PSP as a sort of dock, allowing for wired or even wireless control of the PSP. Of course, dual analog control won't be much help on most PSP games, but gamers will be able to enjoy that downloadable PSX content as it was originally intended. That is, of course, if this harebrained scheme ever makes it to market.

Oh my, forbidden love. Get a room you two!
Oh that is too cool. Perhaps downloadable games with six-axis features are in the pipes? That would rock :D. Loco-Roco would be much more fun movement based XD. As would a number of other more 'arcade style' games.
Or maybe, just maybe ... make the PSP have good controls to start out with?
This is probably more so you can use a sixaxis when having your PSP plugged into your TV, don'tcha think?
I can't imagine actually holding this thing and playing...clunky as heck.
Wouldn't it just make more sense to buy a PS One or Two then?
Thats a DualShock not a SIXAXIS
GET A DS LITE INSTEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How in the name of all that is holy can you PATENT something like this? Method for attaching control device to second device?! Which part isn't obvious and/or laden with past examples?
I returned my PSP because I just couldn't stand playing games with a single stick. The PSP SHOULD have had 2 from the beginning. I wonder what moron at Sony thought just one would do the trick.
If this makes it to reality, and games can be somehow remapped to work with dual sticks, I would buy one again. Or if they just added another one, that would be a real success in my eyes.
I've had a PSP for a while. I don't why you'd even want to use the single analog stick on it at all. The D-pad is much more comfortable. We're talking about a hand-held system here. With the size of handheld units I don't see how an analog stick would work at all let alone a dual analog stick.
i'm just going to start making pictures of gaming shit on top of other gaming shit and patent the hell out of em.
Wouldn't that be kinda top heavy. It seems like it would be a real pain in the wrist . Don't see this making it to production any time soon.
If that's a Dual Shock, what are we supposed to do with the 6 feet of cord?
If anyone cares, this patent is from September 2005; well before the SIXAXIS controller. That also means that this isn't likely to make it to market.
Hmmm familiar http://www.engadget.com/2007/03/04/ps2-controller-frankengrafted-to-psp/
harebrained?!?
I think it's way cool and an awesome way to give new life to the old toys while enjoying the new toys!
It looks like Sony is planning an add-on for PSP to make PSone games maar easy to play on PSP. I believe it's a good idea...
That's not the SIXAXIS btw, it's a picture of the DUALSHOCK controller.
No. 32 points to duct tape, right?
I assume not much thought went into the centre of mass of these two combined, the PSP is pretty bulky if I remember right (don't own one) making the whole thing want to tilt backwards and I don't believe the PS controller is that well designed for tilted backward play to angle the PSP screen correctly... Interesting idea though.
Maybe the the PSP could be used as an additional display for playing some PS3 games. I still wish they released that F1 game where they planned to use the PSP as a side mirror.
SYMMETRICAL DOCKING.
Oh and this is from 2005? If that is true, then I'm pretty dissapointed.
Oh and Bount Chika Wow Wow!
