Spotswood drum PC case brings the beat back
We've seen a lot of ways to use computers as musical instruments, but the L-series case from Spotswood Custom Computer takes that concept to dizzying new heights by mounting components inside a 22-inch circular shell that's a dead ringer for a snare drum. The company says the built-from-scratch case design eliminates hot spots and promotes better cooling, but we think we know a drum PC when we see one. Hit the read link for more pics of the $500 case, and be sure to check out the FAQ, which contains the answer to the following mind-boggler: "I want a quiet PC but that case looks like a drum. Aren't drums supposed to be loud?"

You must be a Giant Thats a bass drum 4 sure
David @ Jul 29th 2007 2:20AM
Must be a snare, if that's a bass then either those are some mighty big ports on the shell or that's the shallowest bass drum ever.

It's obviously a drum, but as a case you can't beat it.

At the bottom of their web page, it says, "PC Cases Built to Take a Beating".

Clicking through to their picture gallery, you can see what looks to be a car battery sitting at the bottom of the case. Can I ride this thing to work too? Cool.

I'm pretty sure that's a power supply buddy (unless you were being sarcastic, I really can't tell)
Kentucky Wildcats! @ Jul 29th 2007 10:24PM
Seriously, it looks just like it, and that's what I thought it was. I never saw a power supply that looked like that. The car battery would help with LAN parties for the proud owner and his band camp friends. Can anyone say ... road trip. Could this mental image get any geek-ier?

"easy access to removable side panels"???
It looks like you need a lug wrench to get into it. No, thanks.
It would be cooler if they incorporated the entire computer into a full drum set, using other drums to house the speakers and keyboard and such...
Seamus Bartlett @ Jul 29th 2007 10:30AM
No, you just need a drum key.
And I mean, it's clearly an over-sized snare drum that they attatched legs to. It's the size of a bass drum, yes, but clearly a snare shell. They could've found a bit more of a transparent drum head for the bottom though...I wonder if it's just as simple as a normal snare or kick drum to change out the head? It seems like any normal one would work...and my kick drum has a double-ply head with sound insulation, so that seems like it would work much better (unless it trapped too much heat).
Anyway, coolest case ever.

It's just a veneer Tube they cut and they put dem der fancy drum peices on it to make it a little classy? I was looking through the pictures and they have models that don't have the drum sides on them. alot more interesting to look at instead of a standard box... especially if it's in your music room.
The ZeroCorpse @ Jul 29th 2007 10:15PM
Yeah, yeah, yeah... You can stick computer guts in anything. We've seen it a zillion times already. Cereal boxes, musical instruments, bloated corpses, whatever... Why people find this interesting is beyond me. I could stick the guts of a radio, television, video game system, calculator, or 8-track player into anything, too... That doesn't make it cool, though.

and the beat goes on...

Old News, I have seen cases like this since 1999.
