Xbox 360 price drop gets more ammo from leaked Toys R Us ad
Hot on the heels of the dubious Wal-mart advertisement, comes the above Toys R Us circular pic, which should add some juice to the price cut rumors. The boys at CheapAssGamer (who snagged the original ad) have gotten their hands on more evidence that the $50 Xbox 360 price cut is indeed coming. Of course, this could be Photoshopped too, but who's really going to all the trouble of doctoring two separate ads to depict this price drop?

Obviously, you never have moved around or traveled. I have lived in New Jersey, Washington, South Carolina, Georgia, and Pennsylvania. There is a huge difference in pricing. This does not mean someone who lives in a $100,000 is living in a worse house than say someone living in New Jersey with $250,000. Actually, you can find cheaper and nicer houses in parts of the country than other. The problem is these parts also have cheaper paying jobs.
The $50 price cut couldn't have come at a better time. With Sony's recent price cut (even if it is 'bait-and-switch'), it did put some pressure on Microsoft and 360's current price point. I just recently picked up a PS3 due to their price drop (Why not just change the 60 GB drive and save some money?) and I agree with a lot of the Xbox users on this forum. Owning all 3 consoles and a fairly decent PC, I can truly say that Xbox Live is by far superior to the PSN, the Wii's non-existent online and MS's weak attempt of Games for Windows. Although costing $50, it is truly worth the speed, reliability and community features. However, with saying that I do look forward to PS Home which will definitely squeeze Microsoft to possibly overhaul 360's online capabilities yet again. Who wins in the end? Us, the users.
Second of all, the 360 has a multitude of exclusives and appealing titles coming this fall and holiday season. I personally believe that is the hardcore gamer's console of choice for 2007. I don't know a) How I will be able to afford all the games I want to play and b) When I will get the time to play them. Halo 3, Mass Effect, Bioshock, PGR4, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, GTA IV (for PS3 as well), DMC4 (for PS3 as well), COD4, Jericho, Rock Band (also for PS3), and the list goes on. Note: I listed a few multi-platform games on the 360 because where I live, 360 games are generally $10 cheaper than PS3 games.
However, 2008 will be the PS3's blossoming year with titles such as Killzone 2, MGS 4, LittleBig Planet, Heavy Rain, GT5, UT3 (timed-exclusive), Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Lair, the addition of PS Home and much more. Once again, the competition only benefits consumers with a great number of amazing titles for anyone looking into gaming.
Another issue involved in this thread is the lack of WiFi support on the 360. I can see how this can be a hassle depending on one's situation. I agree that for the price being paid, the PS3 truly packs much more value with the inclusion of a Blu-Ray player and Wifi. If you buy an Xbox360 and add the feature of HD movie playback and Wifi, it comes out to slightly more than a PS3 at current pricing. Again, I also appreciate Microsoft's approach with allowing user's to choose what they need. The only problem with it is that their initial console price seems rather steep for the feature set. If this price drop is really coming, it will really help to lessen that issue.
The next argument I see is about this being a 'bait and switch' solution by MS. We do not know which SKU's this price drop will involve. If it only involves the 360's with component HD output then yes, it is a bait and switch situation. However, no one can judge that as of yet because no one knows for sure. We know that MS is making a move to bring HD output to the mainstream as their limited edition Halo 3 SKU brings HDMI output and the rumoured 65 nm Falcon 360 is supposedly going to have an HDMI output. MS themself has said (sorry for the lack of link. I can't seem to find it at this time) that they plan to bring minor hardware upgrades to the 360 in phases. This means they will slowly turn 90 nm chips to 65 nm chips and will be altering the internal configurations of the 360 in stages in order to test and figure out the best implementation of their hardware.
Finally, to all fanboys (Xbots, PS3 fanboys and even Nintendogs. I do not understand your motives in bashing another console. You bought what you bought for a reason. Do you feel so insecure about your purchase that you must go around attempting to make the competition look weaker? Why are you not enjoying your purchase instead? Did you realize you made a mistake? Please, think hard before flaming. It does not help anyone. If you want some attention I'm sure there are a few dozen help chat hotlines in your area. Save it for them.
Thank you for reading.
Heavenly Sword for the PS3 will own all game.I play the Demo what an amazing game wow.
Wow, there are lot of stupid people here, judging by the comments. Not to mention, a large number of people with ADD.
The fact is this. It is not a very big price drop, and a bigger selling point would be the 65nm chips. Microsoft probably could have afforded to drop the price more, but with 1.15 billion dollars in loss due to extended warranties and repairs they can not afford to go any lower.
The PS3 is, without a doubt, a better HARDWARE value! And what's up with all the Wii bashing, is that fear I smell? Yeah, that's right Nintendo is now worth more than Panasonic and surpassed Sony recently. And the fact is, the Wii will be the #1 system by January. And as far as Wii online play, it is coming. I can not wait for Mario Kart with its online play.
I really hope Microsoft lowers the price more than $50 bucks, or at least throw a game in with it. Microsoft's problem is they are greedy. How else can you explain why they charge for the XNA Creators Club?
