Logitech's G9 mouse and G15 keyboard get official
Logitech, makers of more input devices than you can shake a USB stick at, officially announced the somewhat radical G9 mouse and an update to its keyboard companion, the G15. The mouse, if you'll recall, is a bit innovative as it allows for interchangeable grips, adjustable weight, and can store setting profiles onboard which require no added drivers to utilize. The G15, in a similar fashion, allows for all sorts of customizable options, including 18 separate programmable "G" keys, which can be setup for a total of 54 macros. The keyboard also includes an LCD display, which Logitech feels will give "gamers critical information to help them win," because we all know there's nothing more helpful when gaming than to have to look away from the monitor. The G9 and G15 will be available in September for $99.99 each.

hmm the G15 keyboard has been out for a while now...
unless there's a new version coming out with the mouse.
anthony @ Aug 1st 2007 10:01AM
I don't understand - the G15 keyboard has been available for quite a while now? More than two years?
nih @ Aug 1st 2007 12:38PM
It's not like the article synopsis Engadget kindly wrote is very long. You should try reading it next time.
Dean @ Aug 1st 2007 10:05AM
Right, I've gone through one G15 already and am on my G11. I don't quite get this article (and the mouse looks damn ugly).

The article was edited to say 'updated G15' after we made the above posts, with no notice that it was edited. Yes, I did read the article before posting.
Anthony @ Aug 1st 2007 10:03AM
I have had my Logitech G15 keyboard for at least a year now. I am typing on it now....... Please correct this Engdaget.
tk @ Aug 1st 2007 4:38PM
Even though several people have already told you, it says "UPDATE" to the g15. It's right in the article.
mad ivad @ Aug 2nd 2007 3:03AM
@tk, but the article is still wrong. The G15 with 18 programable keys has been out for years. The new one coming out only has 6! and it is orange instead of the blue. If the article was better researched it would have been a lot better rather than posting what seems to be an update to an old product
Forrest @ Aug 1st 2007 10:08AM
w00t! My G15 must come equipped with Time Travel(TM)! Now if I can just figure out how to use it at will....
Cam @ Aug 1st 2007 10:14AM
Click through and read the first 2 lines on the linked page, its an updated G15
Jack @ Aug 1st 2007 10:21AM
I have the current G15 keyboard, gotta say I have been wanting a G15 style mouse for a while, this will go perfect with it, I'm not too sure I like the look of the new G15 though, too sporty, and dince when did lazy ass gamers (like myself) ever play sports!?
Jack @ Aug 1st 2007 10:51AM
Just thought I would add, the new G15 only has 6 G-keys, the old G15 has 18! huh!?
poop @ Aug 1st 2007 10:23AM
I love that after years of more dpi = better, they now have a 200dpi option and call it "pixel-precise control"
Homeboy @ Aug 1st 2007 10:24AM
Before I read the title and article I thought it was some sort of gaming helmet.
Neebs @ Aug 1st 2007 10:40AM
Man, that is ugly.
Ypoknons @ Aug 1st 2007 10:41AM
Adjustable weight were in the G5 too. More significantly, they actually changed the classic design that goes back to the MX500, and it also a Revolution-style Hyperscroll wheel.
Scott @ Aug 1st 2007 11:01AM
The mouse that came with my MX5000 cordless desktop is still the most comfortable mouse I own, my G5 comes in at second. It's too bad the MX5000 desktop is such a pain to setup and use.
I don't think the G9 is going to do better than either of those, and wow does it look ugly. I'll skip this upgrade.
Alex @ Aug 1st 2007 11:07AM
The new G15 has less G-keys, is slightly smaller, has orange backlighting instead of blue, and has an integrated LCD more like the G11 than the pop-up LCD on the old G15. It also looks slicker.
Alex @ Aug 1st 2007 11:10AM
They just didn't include a link - the G15 did in fact get an update -

This new (Ill)Logitech mouse, ergonomically incorrect as it is, may be great for gaming, but there are a few of us who require an ergonomically friendly mouse that doesn't require the wrist to be continually moved/flexed. We deserve a (preferably wireless) Vertical Trackball Mouse. Hello, Logitech! Of all the mouse designs, why haven't you offered us (in the states) this? Take your Cordless TrackMan Wheel (PN 904346-0403) mouse and either put its entrails in a vertical shell or offer us a vertical adapter base that will hold the trackball mouse in an ergonomic friendly position. There ya go, Logi. Can't say I never gave you anything. After-market folks, listening?
Scott @ Aug 1st 2007 11:21AM
Reading the article you reference. The new G15 does not have " 18 separate programmable "G" keys" the new G15 will only have 6. The current G15 does have 18 "G keys" though.
Rynth @ Aug 1st 2007 11:28AM
Actually, i couldn't think of anything more handy for in CSS. Theres nothing worse than thinking you can sneak a quick look at your score, and then someone AWP's you 'cus you can't see them.
Bigsby @ Aug 1st 2007 9:12PM
you'd be surprised how handy that little screen is in any game. It doesn't disturb you from your game like you'd expect. I use it especially in battlefield, where it tells me everything from my ping, to my scores and how many people I've killed/how many times I've been killed, and how much ammo/grenades I have.
It sucks that the new one only has 6 G keys, I use most of mine, just have it on the M1 setting, and one G key for all the applications I use most.
Dave @ Aug 1st 2007 11:38AM
Thanks! That makes more sense. I think it looks way cooler than the older model.
EngadgetFanBoi @ Aug 1st 2007 11:41AM
as a pretty huge logitech fan (dinovo, z-5500, g5, mx rev...), I was really looking forward to their newest gaming editions and I have to say that I'm utterly disappointed. that mouse is no less than hideous, and it looks misshaped and uncomfortable - ive never had any problems with the comfort of their mouses, so I don't really understand the need for interchangeable grips. looks matter, and I thought logitech knew that.
BUT it does have some nice features - 3200 dpi!, same scroll technology as mx revolution, weight cartridge.
LlF @ Aug 1st 2007 11:46AM
they just have to update all their kb so they all have that new windows logo
Lattyware @ Aug 14th 2007 10:50AM
Or, far more useful for me, a tux key? (Yes I have a keyboard with this.)
Dan @ Aug 1st 2007 11:52AM
Does the new keyboard (or the old one for that matter) support n-key rollover? Does anyone know of a new keyboard currently available that has n-key rollover? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rollover_(key)
You can test it by opening notepad and holding down the a key. While holding it down, hold the s key, now add the z key, then the x key (you should be holding down 4 keys now). If your keyboard supports 3 or more key rollover, you should see something like this: aaaasssszzzzxxxx. If it doesn't, you may only see aaaassss or aaaasssszzzz.
Dan @ Aug 1st 2007 11:57AM
I don't understand why PC gamers aren't more concerned about n-key rollover. There are many times when you are holding down several keys (strafing, moving diagonally, etc.) while trying to press other keys (fire, switch weapons, whatever). I have not been able to find a keyboard that passes the test except some ancient IBM PS-2 keyboards. The problem appears when the keys are in close proximity and in multiple rows.
PhAdE @ Aug 1st 2007 1:14PM
I just tested it on my current g15, and it passes up to 6 keys, and shift still works when holding all 6.
Michael Tian @ Aug 1st 2007 12:07PM
Looks very urgly.
Kenny @ Aug 1st 2007 1:06PM
wow, that mouse looks like it's from the 80's with those colors, and the ergo looks like something somebody would have made back in the 90's when mice were blocky like the hideous thing hiding under the grips. I have a few Logitech products, but I've completely lost respect for them after seeing this abomination. and 3200 DPI? do they think we're robots, that'd be moving the mouse half an inch to cover the whole screen even for a 1600*1200 display, that's obnoxious. I use my mouse at 1600DPI and even with the sensitivity turned way down,it's quick, but not ridiculous. I'm not sure what Logitech is thinking with this one. Maybe it's an August fools joke?
JHackett305 @ Aug 1st 2007 1:46PM
Um G9 visual looks like 69, did any one consider that?
bugilt @ Aug 1st 2007 1:57PM
They used my idea...
"I was wondering if there would ever be a solution for hand to mouse ratio problem. I have thought about making a foam hump on the mouse to take up the slack or a addon piece of plastic to extend the palm further out. Would this be a solution that would be worthy to help your larger customers or should I work on something myself?"

Huh...looks like those pictures weren't some Chinese knock off fake. This thing reminds me of the Pontiac Aztek.
I wonder what Razer has in store to counter this hideous dump of a mouse.

"As an owner of the G7 and the MX700 before that, I can tell you for sure this is not the successor to the G7. Come on, the G7 has twin lithium ion batteries that just slide in on the bottom. How can the successor have a cord and space for AA batteries. Talk about a downgrade from twin lithium ion batteries and wireless."

nice!!!!!!!!!!!
Sean @ Aug 1st 2007 3:30PM
I'm using a G15 and a Logitech G7 for a mouse. I really think they both match. The mouse is black and blue, just like the keyboard is when it is lit up. They match almost perfectly.
Maybe Logitech is trying to pull some buyers in by selling a gaming bundle with a new mouse and the G15?
Dragoneye @ Aug 1st 2007 10:26PM
I just got a G15 not even one month ago, while I like the way the new keyboard looks, why would they take away most of the G keys? Also the orange back lighting isn't very nice, the blue of the old one looks so much better.
hendryx @ Aug 4th 2007 11:22AM
I have to say that I've just bought a second G15 keyboard and I'm glad I did. This new one wasn't to replace my old one but was more to have one at work as well. Personal I've found the slew of m3xG18 keys great to have.. and something that seems missing from the re-modeled G15 is also the volume wheel.
It's sad to know now that soon if I needed a replacement for my keyboard, or wanted a third for some wierd reason.. my only supplied might end up being Ebay!
Ramiel @ Aug 4th 2007 7:18PM
it seems that many of you commenting have been huge logitech fans for a long time. if logitech hasnt failed you yet then why rip this apart before you have even held it or tried it? ive used 3 different logitech mice (mx510, mx518, G5) and loved them all so i trust logitech to not let me down, if they do they do. but im not gonna knock it till i try it.
