Pure intros environmentally-friendly EVOKE-1S DAB radio
Looking to one-up the well received EVOKE-1XT is the EVOKE-1S, the latest DAB radio to fly out of Pure Digital's doors. This device supports the optional ChargePAK, features an OLED display, and is compatible with textSCAN and Intellitext as well. Furthermore, the 3.5-millimeter auxiliary jack enables your favorite DAP to get some play time through this too, and the built-in FM tuner is always around for backup. Most notable, however, is the uber-green approach Pure took when designing this unit, as it arrives in packaging made from a minimum of 70-percent recycled material, consumes just one-watt of power in standby, is finished with water-based varnish, and includes documentation printed on 100-percent recycled paper. The EVOKE-1S will be available in real maple or cherry veneer, and will only run you £99.99 ($202) this September.

If by "environmentally friendly" you imply that it won't play all the crappy music broadcast on the radio these days, then I'd take one.

Excellent design-wise.

Yes, let's use a high-tech digital radio medium with superior quality and signal, epg, rewind/fast-forward, mp3 compatibility etc. Then we'll ask you to listen using decades old MONO speaker technology.
What are they freakin' kidding?

See the carry handle? I have those on my kitchen doors and drawers! I like my electronics to have kitchen hardware on them, it's so homey!

I guess I don't get it. Other than the paper the manual is printed on and some "water based varnish", how is this product environmentally friendly? And yeah, all these nice features but only a mono speaker?

In a device that small, it is impossible to achieve decent stereo separation anyway. One good speaker will sound better than two less-good speakers. That said, I don't know anything about this speaker.

Weak.
Radios consume very, very little power -- it had BETTER be green, then!
The better question is, why does it consume 1 watt at standby? You think I'm impressed by a device that uses 1 watt to do absolutely nothing? As far as I can tell from the press release, there is no remote control, hence no need for standby. How about just giving us an off switch? Then it would consume 0 watts. 100% power savings!

exactly.
