Remote controlled car shoots for 200mph
200 miles-per-hour on steam? Yeah, you may catch us believing that one, but squeezing that kind of top-end power out of a 29.6-volt direct drive motor would be all kinds of impressive. Granted, the vehicle we're talking about is but a fraction of the size of a standard automobile, but Nick Maslowski is nevertheless hoping to break his own remote control car speed record of 134.4mph with the oh-so-drab X2. This little vehicle certainly won't win any Best in Show medals, but the streamlined design, melt-resistant foam tires, and onboard stabilization system will hopefully enable it to cruise somewhere close to its theoretical maximum speed of 274mph. Check out an (admittedly unexciting) video of a few test runs after the jump.

When I was into this hobbie, i spent over 1k on my RC car, and i didn't really like spending this much on a hobbie. But this video makes me want to start again.... damn you. Yes i know people do spend a lot more then what i just stated but its not worth it in my opinion. Probably why, IMO, many have left this hobbie.
btw, you already tell its fast by the way it just cruise in a circle.
get this man a respirator!
Was thinking the same thing. He's prolly obease
hahaha! yeah. the cameraman is probably fatter than Grimace!
Fat people prefer to control things by radio?
Where's the big zoom!
Imagine how cool it would be to have an RC car that was fast enough to keep up with your regular car.
Your car’s computer would be in control of the drone as it raced ahead of you down the interstate gathering telemetry and recon.
Right up until 10 seconds into it and someone runs over it during a lane change.
Kinda like your eyes?
Ever see the remake of Ocean's 11?
I have a car that will go 80 miles per hour. Its possible, and being done. The world RC speed record is 184 I think...
The ants cheering in the makeshift toothpick stadiums as it roars by, "Queen, Food, Shelter" emblazoned all over the lead car, the ants jeering the overtaking "Orkin" car. They gasp, shocked at each twist, "HE'S MAKIN' A LEFT TURN, HE'S MAKIN' A LEFT TURN, HE'S MAKIN' ANOTHER LEFT TURN!"
What, do you think you're funny, punk? Well, do ya?
I do anyway. Funniest comment I've seen on Engadget all day :) Kudos.
LOL, thanks for that comment...It's going to be a great day now :) I can tell
What motor is he running, it looks like a Hacker brushless, but a 550 can
Hacker or ECM... I'm not sure... Wonder what radio he's using. Haven't seen the video yet.
Geraci is back! where the hell ya been?
Geraci is back! where the hell ya been?
It could probably go faster if it wasnt a shoebox with bat-mobile complex.
I wish my shoe boxes would look like that :(
You are reason why we should remove all safety warnings from all products.
A fun challenge/game to play would be to have a driver take you on the highway in a real car and then you try and steer your RC car right behind or beside your vehicle.
The only danger with this is if you mess up, there goes your expensive RC car which will most likely be crushed by another vehicle.
I can't believe I just spent three minutes watching someone to whom holding a camcorder apparently resembles a heavy workout. This should be flagged for disturbing content. But at least these guys are devoted, spending all on their little zipper instead of drab junk like a wind filter for their camcorder.
Yeah no, I'm big into RC cars, and that thing won't make it. Not very aerodynamic. The wheels in front are fine, but having the motor up front, thats just not doing it. Maybe if he had a cone covering it, but if he went with a more conventional method, it might be possible.
The problem is, hes shooting really high... The record right now is 184 right now, and thats from a much more powerful car, with much better aerodynamics.
Oh and that antennae is also adding a lot of drag...
This is a test shoot. And FWD is much better for speed, as when something is being pulled it wants to go straight. When something is RWD it is much harder to control at high speeds due to the fact that the front will make it wobble back and forth before finally spinning out.
i'm... your... tuur-bo lover!
Judas Priest!
HAHA. Thats Houston Raceway Park. I have raced there before.
