Motorola O ROKR Pro Bluetooth sunglasses hit the FCC
It looks like Motorola and Oakley have decided to try their hands at another pair of Bluetooth-equipped sunglasses, with the pair's new slimmed down O ROKR Pro shades now making their first appearance on the FCC's website. Unlike Oakely's various Thump shades, these don't pack any storage of their own, relying instead on a Bluetooth connection to stream music from your cellphone or Bluetooth-equipped portable music player. What's more, the O ROKR Pros also support AVRCP to let you control your music directly from the shades, and they can double as a wireless headset, although not one we'd recommend using during your next business meeting. According to the user manual, you can expect to get about five hours of use on a charge, which can be done either by plugging 'em into your computer's USB port or by using the included wall charger (or optional car charger). Of course, this being the FCC, there's no word on price or availability, but it doesn't seem like word of that should be too far off. Click on through for a few more pics.

Does anybody else think it's kind of ugly? Just saying it's not gonna replace my headphones and Foakleys anytime soon.
aeo @ Aug 2nd 2007 11:30AM
Well, I'm not buying till they stick on an antenna, a mirror on one side and a HUD on the other and a tiny set of windshield wipers. Only then will they truly say, "geek".
Brian @ Aug 2nd 2007 11:36AM
O ROKR Pro? Was BCG already taken?
Spyvie @ Aug 2nd 2007 11:58AM
I'd buy em if they were endorsed by Al Roker!

Why can't they just lose the big silly articulating arms to the earpieces? All they need is to put a short wire from the shades to the buds and these things are much less dorky looking.
Over-engineer much?

Optional extras: fake mustache and nose.

I hope they hold up better than the last set they produced. When I was selling sunglasses we had a lot of returns because of poor quality.
I wonder what changes are in store for Oakley now that they are owned by Luxotica.

3 word: dog bounty hunter
dbell @ Aug 2nd 2007 12:48PM
Dog The Bounty Hunter will be pleased.
Mark Galvan @ Aug 2nd 2007 12:51PM
If they can design a bluetooth pepper-spray MP3 player/Phone - Dog the Bounty Hunter will be styling.
I hope Oakley didn't give him the Thumps he's always wearing for promotional purposes. Although it would make sense if Oakley's target audience is the people who wrestle at "niteclubs" in one stoplight towns on the weeknights the house Poison tribute band isn't playing.
Magallanes @ Aug 2nd 2007 12:55PM
it's that a blue brother's sunglasses?
CommanderAce @ Aug 2nd 2007 1:41PM
My Thump Pros are awesome, you lot couldn't see a decent set of shades if they hit you in the face.
Steven @ Aug 2nd 2007 1:47PM
Stylin'!
It's like the 80's/Early 90's all over again.
In other news... these glasses are downright fugly. I agree with the whole over-engineering comment.
Mr Yuk @ Aug 2nd 2007 2:14PM
My kids got me the earlier version of these last summer. No storage, bluetooth works with either a bluetooth dongled iPod or mr old Treo. Control with a series of buttons on each side - in fact they are just as ugly. I'm guessing you got an old press release cause there'snothing new here.
az_runner @ Aug 2nd 2007 2:51PM
I have a pair of the Thump Pro's which looks exactly the same as this, except it's an MP3 player instead of a bluetooth headset. If the O rok rpro is built the same way this thing is going to kick the butt of any other bluetooth music headset. The thump pro is freakin' waterproof with the exception of the usb port. I've gone on a 15 mile run in them and on a very hot day. I was sweating all over them and they didn't skip a beat. I have a friend that has a pair as well. He showered with his on and did not have a problem. Pretty darn good "over engineering" if you ask me.
Juice @ Aug 2nd 2007 3:20PM
Talk about niche' market.
Mark Galvan @ Aug 2nd 2007 3:24PM
Az_Runner:
I totally hope you can wear the new ones in the shower too. Did they look cool on him while he was showering? Is he an AZ guy too?
They need to add some really big Oakley logos to them so people know you're wearing Oakleys. That would suck if you had to tell everyone. I guess Oakley could always make a t-shirt with an arrow pointing up that says "Oakleys" on it.
The coolest thing would be if Bose made the headphone part and shrunk down their audiophile acoustimass technology to a size that could be molded into a pair of plastic sunglasses. I know you've got the technology Taiwan - Make it happen!

I have the o rocker's, the originals from last summers release, and i gotta tell you, no wires works great for running, biking playing sports. The orockers are the best. I dont know if i like the orocker pro's though, i dont digg the frame. Oh and BTW bose sucks!!!!! If the paired with sure to make these i would buy them!
bloody toast=\\\\ @ Aug 2nd 2007 9:24PM
wow can motorola make anything less ugly?
Nick Lepera @ Aug 2nd 2007 10:50PM
Only the Dog looks cool rocking these Oaks.
IronSheik @ Aug 14th 2007 4:17PM
looks a lot more REAL and they concealed that fugly O from their logo
this is a must for the Cali sun....especially for drivers since the new law goes into effect next year that u start getting fined for not using "hands free" while driving

I own the rokr pro and they are fantastic, I have it paired with my Motorola Rizr Z3 Cell Phone, I have the music player running right now as I am typing this message, if a call was to come in to my phone, there is a audible ringtone heard in the earpiece, then all I do is press the center button on the left earpiece, and it answers the call, I talk normally and I'm in the call.
One thing I like the most is the ability to make calls just pressing the call button on the glasses my phone asks me to speak a command. I will say Call Number and it automatically calls the number I ask.
If I want to see how much battery life is left in my phone I say the command Battery and my cell will tell me how much battery strength is left on the phone. Those are some of the examples of what it can do.They really don't look so bad either. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v335/three_bees/P3260921.jpg
You really need to have a decent cell to match to the bluetooth in this pair of oakleys
Then the possibilities are endless. I have recently ordered a icombi to connect my ipod to the oakleys by bluetooth.
I like the shades and the use of the bluetooth alot and since the law has passed on the driving and cell phone issue. This hands free setup isn't bad at all.
I'll give you another report when I get the icombi, Sometime around April 3, 2008.

I have the Rokr Pro model that streams bluetooth and takes phone calls (microphone built into the glasses.) Yeah the earpods stick out and there isn't exactly a perfect position accept in ur ears. Cool thing is that you can stick the earpods in ur ears and have the sunglasses sitting on ur head so you can weat them all the time and it looks like a headphone but you still got ur sunglasses for those glaring moments. Also you can change the lenses to nearly every type you could want from Oakley and changing them only takes about a minute after you've gotten the technique (not difficult to learn) down. The funny thing is that because they don't look like a typical bluetooth headset people think ur nuts when you talk on this thing during a phone call. People have gotten used to seeing peeps with the regular bluetooth headsets hanging from peep's ears, but when they see you yapping away and there's no chunk of electronics hanging from ur ear they give you this weird look like ur nuts. Of course in my case I am kinda nuts so I really don't give a sh*t. It's funny though when everyone thinks ur talking to them and they respond. Sometimes you gotta announce to people that you're on a phone call. Some peeps still don't get it because they are technology challenged. These O Rokr Pros kick the lama's ass. I love them and always wear them as they are the absolutely safest, best sounding bluetooth headset I have ever used and I have tried many of them. Best part is you can listen with either the left ear OR the right ear OR both for those particularly noisy environments or important conversations. I've been called all sorts of names though by people because they are so hi-tech and some peeps think I'm a geek, but than again....I am. LOL ;p

I love some great looking Bluetooth sunglasses that will keep me connected on the go, but without the geeky looking earpiece that makes you look like you just came out of a Star Trek convention :-) I have ordered at http://www.letli.com low price.
