Nissan unveils concept car with anti-drunk driving technology
Just as expected, Nissan has indeed rolled out a concept vehicle that showcases its long-awaited anti-drunk driving technology. The vehicle sports "multiple preventative features" designed to curb inebriated operation of vehicles, and essentially detects the driver's state of sobriety and kicks into action if you've had a bit much. Amongst the detection agents are alcohol odor sensors built into the locking shift knob, seat-mounted sensors that can activate a voice and navigation screen warning, and a facial monitoring system that determines your "state of consciousness through your eyes." Regrettably, there's still no word as to when this system could actually hit showroom floors, but if the automaker has shelled out enough dough to craft a concept vehicle, we'd imagine it's not too far out.

No, but I do see that a company, for once, actually puts the thoughts of people ahead of profit, and all the people here do is criticize them for a product, that if I am not mistaken, NO ONE here has ever actually seen in use. So you can try to gang up on and ridicule me all you want but with the obvious closed minded attitudes of the people posting here I care about your criticism about as much as Nissan does. Which is to say not at all. Theres no need to bother with this exchange anymore, at this point your are either too stubborn or too dumb to get it.
Poor Lindsay, she'll never drive another Nissan again.
What happens when you're the DD and the sensors pick up your drunk friends' odors?!?
Fuck shit ass bitch tits & balls... I've not only seen the car, I've driven it.. Drunk and the car didn't pick up that I had been drinking before I hit that deer.
only way to eliminate drunk driving is to outlaw alcohol
To answer the question of who's going to buy a car with these features, I assume parents of teenagers will be high on the list. "Sure, you can borrow the car tonight, but you're taking Mom's Nissan, (not Dad's whateverelse)."
As for those of you trying to devise ways to defeat the system and/or insulting its existence in the first place, I hope you all DIAF. If you want to drive drunk, go do it off a cliff - not on roads full of sober people. Assholes. Every one of you.
Really though, the bottom line here is that this is a problem which doesn't need to be and shouldn't be addressed by technology. It should be addressed by stricter laws. Period. In the state of NY (right next door to me), they keep your car if you're caught driving drunk. And I don't mean keep overnight either. No, I mean, paint it black and white, slap some lights on there, and keep it. Drive drunk? Your car is NY state's car now.
Why is that not the law everywhere?!
There is no such thing as a penalty for driving drunk (except death) which I would consider too strong. For the record though, I don't think any crime should be punishable by death. But don't get me started one more than one rant at a time.
Paris Hilton already on the waiting list...
No for real, I really believe that it can work and reduce the drunk drivers on the roads.
Check this link to see good example of way we need this car:
