Commodore unveils Gravel C200 media player
Commodore, a company which had long been considered dead and gone, continues to mount its inexplicable return to the spotlight with its latest offering, the Gravel C200 media player. As excited as we are that the C64-makers are back on the scene, it's hard to get too jazzed about this media-player, which is about as rote as you can get. The HTC Touch look-alike rocks a 1.8-inch color screen, comes in 512MB, 1GB, and 2GB storage varieties, and plays back all sorts of file formats like MP3, WAV, WMA, MPEG 2, MPEG 4, DivX, XviD, and WMV. Although the form-factor is nice and utilitarian, Commodore is going to have to do something really special to entice a purchase out of us... like, maybe add C64 emulation?

Wow. Nothing says "High Tech" like "Gravel."

Honestly, I would pick one up given the chance just for the sake of nostalgia. It might be a newbie question, but being in the states, is there a way to get stuff easily from overseas like this?
NHAnimator @ Aug 6th 2007 3:56PM
When I can load it up with Archon, I'm in.
apeguero @ Aug 6th 2007 4:08PM
Maybe it will sell for like $50.00 or something for the 2gig version. Other than that, WTF Commodore?
Myrmidon @ Aug 6th 2007 4:18PM
Keep in mind this is NOT THE Commodore from the 70's and 80's, but rather a company that has purchased the rights to the Commodore name/brand.

Where's the cassette tape drive?
CaptSaltyJack @ Aug 6th 2007 4:27PM
FUGLY! Where's the eye bleach?!
Klaus Burton @ Aug 6th 2007 4:29PM
Yeah the storage capabilities of it suck but if you're right about those video formats it supports that's pretty impressive in comparison to iPods.
DivX, XviD and WMV playback may be enough to sway a few people.
Not me 'cause I need a lot more than 2GB, but maybe if they released hard drive editions I'd consider it. I've been looking to switch from iPod to something else for a long time, it's still the best but is still lacking in many areas.
strider_mt2k @ Aug 6th 2007 4:50PM
Cool, I can carry both movies I own with me!
strider_mt2k @ Aug 6th 2007 4:47PM

underwhelm @ Aug 6th 2007 5:04PM
They've really captured the Commodore aesthetic.
Ant @ Aug 6th 2007 5:02PM
Arrrr, look away children and never mention Commodore again. Take back everything I said about the Zune, the crapometer has just shot its load all over this pile of grey tat.
Biak @ Aug 6th 2007 5:41PM
> Commodore, a company which had long been considered dead and gone
well... This Commodore IS ACTUALLY dead and gone. The new "Commodore" has no link with it. It just bought the name to its last owner.
strider_mt2k @ Aug 6th 2007 6:12PM
-like RCA, Philco, and so many others.
Mick O @ Aug 6th 2007 5:49PM
The obligatory "Yeah, but can it run AmigaOS?" post. Wake me up when it Kickstarts to Workbench...
Typhoid Mary @ Aug 8th 2007 10:00AM
Do I still have to wait 2.5 minutes for it to load?
Alvin @ Aug 6th 2007 7:02PM
I'm still holding out for the hotly anticipated Commodore Kucinich

The Amiga is sooooooo long gone. I weep for the Amiga. This is like some kind of unholy resurrection.
