Glossy Display = Sadness
I beg to differ. My laptop has a glossy screen and the LCD screen for my TFT doesn't. Reflections have never been a problem for me unless I'm sitting with my laptop outside, which is something I never do. But with a desktop it is always positioned so that run rays isn't directed at it, which means that you can go glossy all the way.
Glossy screens provide a more crisp and clear projection. Further more pictures/movies look more alive and vivid.
I couldn't agree more. I just turned down an amazing deal on a 46" LCD TV that I've been saving up for for quite some time because when I went to look at it in the store all I saw were reflections, especially in low light scenes. What is the point of a 15k:1 contrast ratio if I can't make out whats on the screen.
For those of you who love your glossy notebooks, and I know there will be a lot of you. I have a MacBook and didn't have an option with the glossy vs non. It's bearable but only to the extent that I can reposition it, which is fine for a notebook. Also most of the time you have lots of white on the screen which helps to hide the glare.
When your talking about a desktop computer or a TV it's much more of a pain in the ass to reposition them to get rid of the glare. Many times moving furniture just isn't feasible.
Gloss is a total deal breaker for me and my entire organization, which is a shame because we were considering converting the entire office to iMacs. Guess we'll have to wait and see what happens to the Mac Mini's or just get MBP's for everyone.
