Halo 3-themed Xbox 360 landing in September for $400
Sure, we already knew the Halo 3-themed Xbox 360 was on the horizon, and we even warned you to save a bit extra for those Halo-clad accessories, but now we're absolutely certain that you better have the necessary dough by next month if you're looking to be an early adopter. Yep, Microsoft's special edition console will be landing sometime in September for $399.99, and will include "an authentic Spartan green-and-gold finish," matching wireless controller, a 20GB hard drive, headset, a Play and Charge Kit, and "more" -- though we're not exactly sure what the latter may be. Get in line early folks, we've got all ideas this will be a fairly hot commodity.

Hmmm... well, I can puke that color onto my Xbox after about 20 tacos and a 1/5 of tequila. What's the price for that?
Ravi Kapoor @ Aug 7th 2007 6:44PM
assuming you get the tacos at a buck a pop and you have to go out and buy the bottle of tequila for about $20, you're saving about $10 for the DIY method. I'd personally spend the extra $10 for a finish that can't be wiped off by your shirt once you collapse on your xbox 360.
AlexP @ Aug 7th 2007 6:44PM
What about the orange accents? :V
Ryan @ Aug 7th 2007 11:16PM
Just add carrots to your Taco
elyk-R @ Aug 7th 2007 6:47PM
Worthless unless it's bundled with Halo3....
Sean DL @ Aug 7th 2007 8:15PM
I kinda get why it doesn't....I mean if you buy this AND the Legendary Edition...you'd have two copies..
Who would want both..oh I don't know...you ask those in line buying Halo 3 AND the Halo 3 360.,..
Ravi Kapoor @ Aug 7th 2007 6:48PM
i had a question, does this version also come with HDMI and the 65nm revision? In september, will the premium version priced at $350 also have HDMI and the 65nm revision? I'd rather save the $50 as I'm not too keen on the halo-theme.
Garry @ Aug 8th 2007 10:09AM
@Ravi:
The Halo 3 edition will indeed come with HDMI out (the next Premium revision is rumored to have HDMI, also). This *probably* means that it will use the 65nm chips. Any console made after July 2007 will have the new chips, and it's likely that none of these were manufactured before then.
It's easy to check the manufactured date without opening the box. There's a flap on the back that folds down, and it says right on the box when the unit was manufactured (or so I'm told).
humpty @ Aug 7th 2007 6:48PM
That'll go well with all of my Olive Green AV equipment and camo-furniture. After all, all grown men should have an army themed living room.
Brent @ Aug 7th 2007 6:55PM
Fugliest Console Ever
optV @ Aug 7th 2007 6:59PM
Even though the Elite looks better than that ugly Halo edition, am I the only one that thinks the white 360 is the best looking?
Terminal @ Aug 7th 2007 7:25PM
My favorite one is the white one too! With RED LED ACCENTS!
Ant @ Aug 7th 2007 7:02PM
Who styled that? That is funny as hell. My other half would kill me if I came within one hundred yards of the house with that. Ow dear, ow dear. Surely this is meant for children right, it can’t be for anyone above the age of 12, unless they have no chance of getting a lady friend. lol
joseraulnova @ Aug 7th 2007 7:07PM
Yuck.
Ant @ Aug 7th 2007 7:08PM
Looking up the main Engadget page you go past a shot of the iPhone pretty cool, then Mac Pro with its understated lines, nice...... and then...... Arrrrrrrrrr, what the hell is that, kill it, kill it.
K_G @ Aug 7th 2007 7:16PM
The "more" will be a matching halo green wireless voice communicator
Andrew M @ Aug 8th 2007 4:33AM
Bungie has said that it includes the wired headset, not the wireless.
Gomez @ Aug 8th 2007 2:33AM
Am I the only one who likes the new console!?!?!?!
but I wont buy it since I live in Canada and we get a $100 price cut so our premiums will be $399 while the special ed will be $499....$100 bucks for paint and no halo 3!?!? HELL NO!!! and did i forget 20 gig HDD and no 65nm
joe @ Aug 7th 2007 7:43PM
I like it. I like the fact it looks military and weathered on the edges. But I wouldn't buy it because I don't think I would be able to find 3 more matching controllers. And what is with the 20GB HD?
And since some Apple guys came here to hate let me just say I don't like the way Apple products look.
Reader @ Aug 7th 2007 7:51PM
I guess I'm the only one that thinks it looks good?
D14BL0 @ Aug 7th 2007 7:56PM
The way people are making fun of the color scheme, it makes me wonder why so many people still cosplay as Master Chief. If you don't like that color on your gaming console, why would you dress from head to toe in it?
Chimuel @ Aug 7th 2007 8:02PM
Yes! Another SKU from M$... and it even comes with a whopping 20GB. /end sarcasm.
M$, when will you learn? All we want are more heatsinks and fans to stop our beloved consoles from frying.
Seiji @ Aug 7th 2007 8:12PM
My school's colors are green and gold. Always thought it was ugly.
cool8man @ Aug 7th 2007 8:53PM
It has an HDMI port and it comes with Halo 3 dashboard themes and pics too.
AlexP @ Aug 7th 2007 9:08PM
FUCK YEAH, VALUE!
Wait, what.
mrzbox @ Aug 7th 2007 9:17PM
i m sorry microssoft this is one ugly xbox and please add halo to it then you will get my money
F3 @ Aug 7th 2007 10:25PM
Halo's predominant color has been blue. So what's with the ugly as sin green?
Josh @ Aug 8th 2007 12:02AM
Um, Master Chief has always been green. And gold. Hence the color scheme.
F3 @ Aug 8th 2007 1:11AM
Yes, but most Halo materials have had a cool color, the logo and UI in particular. Green has never been a thematic color in Halo, and this puke green stuff is only a recent thing. It doesn't work well at all.
Nathaniel Meyer @ Aug 7th 2007 11:18PM
I don't find this choice of aesthetics all that bad. It's certainly not classy, but it's still not as bad as the purple cube *shudders*. Besides, there may be some interesting faceplate combinations to be had if you're worried about how the face looks. Stacked or within an entertainment center, the sides may not even be seen. Of course all of that sort of defeats the purpose of paying for the "Halo 3 edition" but the play and charge kit, an all too elusive "more", and another choice in controller color isn't too bad of a deal it seems. I haven't run the latest numbers on what sort of price difference this would have compared to the recent price break, and what comes with the lower priced console though. Anyone care to enlighten me?
strider_mt2k @ Aug 7th 2007 11:20PM
I dunno man, paint is mighty expensive.
strider_mt2k @ Aug 7th 2007 11:05PM
-but this one has a new hat!
johnnynoknow @ Aug 7th 2007 11:17PM
i think it'll look better in person versus a picture, but that's just a guess.
Jt @ Aug 7th 2007 11:29PM
And to think that Microsoft put out such a killer bundle last gen with the Green Halo LE Bundle.
That bundle suckered me into Xbox last generation, but this one does absolutely nothing for me. No added value here, folks. What were they thinking?
bjrcboy @ Aug 8th 2007 12:04PM
I hope it comes with a master chief blow up doll for me to go to sleep with every night...
myles @ Aug 8th 2007 3:57AM
a can of spray paint and some stencils could do the trick...in Halo BLUE
alexhrose71 @ Aug 8th 2007 10:17AM
Yeah and they should also release another SKU, Covenant color scheme (aqua blue & violet with neon green edging).
/sarcasm
Actually this is pretty hideous but its cheap - only way (currently...) to get HDMI outside of the more expensive Elite; includes the play and charge kit also, what is that $40 or something. Feature for feature ir probably justifies being $50 more than the premium.
Hey you can always paint it white and have a white and copper "premium" with HDMI :P
acadiaN_ @ Aug 9th 2007 9:03AM
Actully, the elite drops to 499.99CND$ (50$ price drop) The new Halo Ed SKU will be 459.99CND$ (50$ more than the Premium after the 100$ price drop)
Burnt Toast @ Aug 8th 2007 2:57PM
"and more" = HDMI
This does NOT come with Halo 3. This is a console purchase, not a bundle... in fact, this console launches earlier then Halo 3's launch.
Kido1986 @ Aug 8th 2007 3:17PM
Anyone else think idiot fanboy's will pay $100 more than it costs 2 weeks after its release when you can't find one in stores?
Woovie @ Aug 15th 2007 6:39PM
If you do not like this, you just have no taste for anything besides of what you like. You most likely don't like to try new things nor do you probably eat your veggies. I think it is rather awesome. Very unique indeed. I myself am buying one along with a normal or maybe special edition of Halo 3. Fuck that helmet shit.
victor @ Oct 2nd 2007 1:54AM
does anyone know how many Halo 3 Special Edition Console's were made or produced
