Inflatable dress turns into a chair for impromptu sits
If there's one thing we know about the clothing of the future, it's that it'll be incredibly silly -- like this dress that self-inflates to form a chair when you need a quick break. Designer JooYoun Paek crafted this little slice of tomorrow from seven heavy-duty trash bags, two foot pumps, and a pair of slippers for the Unravel fashion show in San Diego this week -- and to "transform the humdrum experiences produced by routine walking commutes into an amusing interactive performance." Check the read link for a few vids of the dress in action.

So it's powered by those pumps on her feet?
...For some reason I feel disappointed.
Chuckles McGee @ Aug 7th 2007 9:10AM
Pumps are the only functional way...powered anyway else, and it'd just be hot air.
Ebzy @ Aug 7th 2007 9:39AM
not to mention explosive
strider_mt2k @ Aug 7th 2007 9:09AM
First loser, correct.
strider_mt2k @ Aug 7th 2007 9:35AM
It looks like something from Woody Allen's "Sleeper".
If you haven't seen it, you really should.

This is useless because it doesn't hold the air. So after 6 blocks of walking like an idiot, I can sit for 10 seconds.
Nando @ Aug 7th 2007 10:17AM
HAHAHAHA!!!! I know!! Once the person stops walking and sits on the damned thing, they won't even be able to enjoy reading a quarter of a page because the chair will have lost most of its air.
What's funny in the video is the look on her face when getting up off the floor.

Funniest part is, it looks incredibly difficult to walk. This necessitates the breaks that the dress is supposed to manage. So basically, you could walk like an idiot and take breaks because its so hard to walk or just take the damn thing off and get where you're going much easier.
Rynth @ Aug 7th 2007 9:49AM
because you wouldn't look like an idiot in that dress anyway..

the effort put into inflating this will be more and the person naturally will feel tired more and wants to sit....
on the other hand if we are are walking normally we can go a long distance.... :D
the original article says that their aim of the project was to make walking fun and a good excercise....
but i dont think this is getting them anywhere :(

Baby got back! For an asian chic that is rare!

FINALLY! You guys finally showcase a product that we can use in our daily lives! “I sit” AND “I walk”- this is the kind of technology that speaks to us. I wonder, has she thought of a small boat or dingy version, it would be ideal when you have to cross a lake or stream on your long walks.

As if women don't already complain enough about their butts looking big.

Years from now, we will still be wearing T-shirts and jeans. That's all you need.

jivetrky @ Aug 7th 2007 1:59PM
All I want to know is: Does it come in black!?
myles @ Aug 8th 2007 4:07AM
LOL not only do you sound like a machine while you're walking, you look like a complete idiot wearing some kind of unpainted bumblebee suit. And you can't even sit for more than 5 seconds! This is what chairs and benches are for...
Juan Ignacio @ Aug 10th 2007 4:53PM
Yeah, but... will it blend?
S-Kape @ Aug 18th 2007 3:12PM
It is white. It is innovating. Does it call itself iSit?
Doug @ Aug 19th 2007 5:07PM
I think she almost got her book open before it deflated. Good thing she brought that along.
