Nokia makes Prism collection officially official
Despite Asian availability for a few weeks now of the 7500 model, it seems Nokia has just today decided to make its so-called "Prism collection" official. Perhaps a great gift for the mathematics professor or physicist in your life, the two span the spectrum of radio coverage and features; the 7500 is naturally the lower-end of the two, featuring a QVGA display, 2 megapixel camera, and data topping out at EDGE speeds. The 7900 adds a fourth band of GSM coverage (Americans may want to stay away from the 7500 thanks to an absence of GSM 850), WCDMA 850 / 2100, 1GB of internal storage, and a trick 2 inch OLED screen. Both phones ride atop Series 40 3rd Edition and should be in shops this quarter -- if they aren't already -- for €210 and €400 (about $288 and $549) respectively.

Design directly from the 1977 film Logan's Run.

Yeah, you can only use it if you're under 30 and the bluetooth earbud is a red gem. :-p

When's their "Coolness" collection coming out?

Finally, an iPhone killer!

You can cut/paste on it?

the background image on these things is supposed to change all the time and stuff, tho - I kinda want one now, just for the WTF factor. Tron, baby, Tron.

Designed by an upholsterer in Juarez.

The only part of that collection I would want is a desktop port of that 'living wallpaper.' Other than that app, I think they tried some nice things, and had some good ideas but......ugh *shudders*, it's suffering from 'severe appearance deficit.'

No, no, and no.

Does 850/2100 mean it has US 3G?

Does anyone know what those marks above the letters on keys 1-5 of the 7500 are?
Solomon @ Aug 7th 2007 1:29PM
Not ugly at all. I respect their guts to bring a novel design out. Y'all seemed to like the design a few months ago: http://www.engadget.com/2007/07/03/nokia-debuts-totally-fugly-7500-prism-in-china/#comments

WTF! What a monstrosity!!! I know it's been in the development pipe for at least a year but come on Nokia.
Haven't the handset manufacturers learned something with the advent of the iPhone? I'm willing to wager that even iPhone naysayers are not going to argue this point with me.

The pink one looks cool. The buttons seem pretty small though.
Korsakow @ Aug 7th 2007 4:44PM
Just looking at those buttons makes my fingers hurt...
Russ @ Aug 7th 2007 5:23PM
reminds me of rubik's 'link the rings'.

Argh, my eyes! God, it's hideous!

Wait, no, no - the new Macs...

alright, it looks pretty freaking ugly, but i played with one of these things (7900 i think) a few weeks back and it's pretty cool. the power on and off goes level by level up (or down) the keypad and onto the screen and around hte back. the LED also never turns off because it consumes so little energy. I have to admit I thought it was the worst idea before i played with it but I have to admit, I'm now a fan.
