Apple's new wireless keyboard not shipping for 3-5 weeks
While the new iMacs, USB 2.0 keyboard, and updated iLife and iWork suites announced yesterday shipped out lickety-quick, it seems like Apple's tiny new Bluetooth keyboard isn't quite ready yet -- the online Apple Store is showing wait times of 3-5 weeks. That's at least down from the 4-6 weeks we swear the store showed yesterday, but it's still a mighty long time. Oh well -- we'll never feel comfortable without a numeric keypad anyway.

So what is the advantage of no keypad besides the fact it cost apple less to make? This is almost as evil as charging peope a $100 for the color black
apple store down again maint or new item? also i hate when apple offers items for sale and it says 3 to 4 weeks does any other company sell their product before its in their hands? and im not talking movies or video games.
Anyone old enough to remember/own a Spectrum 48k?
Do you think this keyboard will work with the Wii? That would be awesome. I hate having to use the remotes to try and write messages. I do hate the fact that they put the Fn key in the bottom left instead of a ctrl key, maybe a deal breaker & what's with not doing a fully sized wireless keyboard as well?? Apple seemed to have missed something here...
I ordered mine yesterday, and its still saying that it will be delivered by 22nd August at the latest. They'll probably be changing this soon though!
Why don't they have a numeric key function on the QWERTY keys, like they do on the macbooks?
This keyboard looks very limiting. I would never use it. Why would I buy a Mac for double the price of a PC? Especially when it becomes obsolete after a year. My girlfriend can't even use the latest Safari web browser because she doesnt have the latest Mac OS. Sneaky sneaky...$teve Job$.
WHY couldn't the wireless keyboard have a little trackpad?! I can only assume Apple made it small so it could function as more of a media center PC keyboard, not that they have a media center PC at this point... Anyway, I'm so jealous over the Sony VAIO TP1 keyboard, that's the coolest keyboard around for media center PCs! Check it out here: http://www.engadget.com/2007/07/26/sony-quietly-launches-vaio-tp1-living-room-pc/
Looks very purdy. It's a shame that the lack of the numeric keypad makes it too inconvenient for me to actually get one.
madeofrain: You are absolutely right. Spectrum was the first thing I thought of when saw the keyboard. Guess I am showing my age...
A significant advantage to dumping all that stuff to the right of the letters is that you can now have your mouse much closer to your hands. Also, this keyboard and a mouse will fit on pretty much any keyboard tray/shelf and do so easily. I can't fit my full size keyboard and my mouse on my keyboard tray. The mouse has to be on top of the table.
Something I noticed is that the arrow keys do not have function key functions for page up/down/home/end or if they do it isn't labeled. I would miss those if they really aren't there. Hopefully someone will come up with some freeware to provide that feature, though. Or maybe it is there and just not labeled as such.
I just checked the apple website and now the keyboard is shipping between 4-6 weeks.
This keyboard is ideal for me. I have a small space on my keyboard tray, and I end up having to type on the keyboard by sitting to the side. I can't center it properly because if I do, the numpad hangs over the right side of the tray. With this, the ability to type will be greatly improved.
Yes, I know how to use a number pad, but I rarely NEED to use it at home. For the occasional number entry, I can always get a USB numpad and stick it on the desk somewhere, or just get used to typing numbers the old fashioned way. I'd much rather have a centered QUERTY keyboard than a number pad anyway.
I placed my order on Aug 12th and the current order status says:
Ships by: Sep 25
Delivers by: Oct 1
Ordered Aug 13th, shipped today. :D
Got my new wireless keyboard this afternoon(I had placed the order on Aug 9th). Looking at the size of the box, I thought it was something else and not the keyboard. After opening the box, I was pleasantly surprised. Its amazingly thin and small. I have played around it for 5-10 mins and like it so far. Its so small that it might bother people with big hands(I have fairly big hands.. so will see how it works out)
any news out there about availability of the new wireless keyboard?
ordered mine on Sept 19th (together with a new MBP and wireless mouse) - everything on stock but the keyboard... :(
they say will ship by Oct 10th / deliver by Oct 19th. is there any chance it will be sooner than this? (how accurate are those dates?)
and: 9 days for the delivery??? i used to get my stuff from apple store within 2 days!!!
what are your experiences?
thanks!
well, i changed my order now, canceling the keyboard from the ordered items.
and, suddenly they say that the rest of my order ,MBP and 2 wireless mighty mice, will be shipped today =)
i ordered the keyboard again in a separate order (expected date of delivery 2-3 weeks) - so that's ok for me, since i don't need the keyboard that urgently (but i do need the MBP!)
