Sprint to offer WiMAX-enabled Nokia N800 in 2008?
While we were already looking forward to the N800 Internet Tablet's inevitable successor, it seems like Sprint may have something else in mind. According to LinuxDevices, the operator "will offer a mobile WiMAX-enabled version of Nokia's N800 Internet Tablet to North American customers next year," which reportedly falls in line with the carrier's grand scheme of making 4G services available "to over 100 million people during 2008." Furthermore, Nokia's director of open source, Dr. Ari Jaaksi, was quoted as saying that this here device would "most probably" include WiFi and Bluetooth as well, but as expected, no details regarding a specific launch timeframe were divulged.

If the pricing doesn't suck, I could go for it. Let me tack on service for $10-$15 a month to my current Sprint plan.
I'm so tired of seeing "-enabled" everywhere.
I like how there talking about moving to 4G when i cant even get EV-DO Rev.A yet which is just a faster 3G... Yeah slow down sprint i want my REV.A first.
yeah. 3G wasn't much of a change. It is was only a faster version of 2.5G. I think 4G is finally a major change in wireless tech. The point where the barrier of cellphone wireless and pc wireless breaks. So people can communicate between cellphone and pc seamlessly.
Neeko, they have Rev. A available now. It's in a number of major metro areas. If you want to use it now, get a Rev. A card for your PC, or get a Mogul and wait for the update to come for it (last I heard, it should be coming around Q3, so you probably won't have to wait very long). They're expanding their coverage, but they can't do it instantly.
In case you didn't notice, Sprint is not in a great position as Telco's go. They have to fire on all cylinders to keep up with AT&T and VZW, and this is how they do it. If they "slow down" as you suggest, they get left in the dust. This "Sprint Ahead" thing is their way to say to potential customers, "if you want speed on your network, you want Sprint." And instead of that being just empty marketing promises, they're actually backing it up with goals and deals such as this one.
Anyway, this is more great news for Sprint. I really like what they're doing with themselves of late.
Hm since the N800 tablet runs Linux it should be no problem to make it a WiMax-Wi-Fi bridge, assuming that the Sprint version doesn't disable the Wi-Fi
As soon as they have coverage in my area I'll buy.
I love my n800. I love to have it online. I hate hotspot hopping and I'm just not going to pay through the nose for a pda/laptop plan when performance sucks like it does. even EVDO isn't worth $50/mo.
Once I have a N800 and Sprint has the WiMax coverage, I think I'll be set for a long while.
Let's pray that Sprint keep their promise.
The Nokia N800 likes quite promising. Touch screen, big display and handsome looking. What's not to like? :-)
I hope that they will also change the screen for N800, 65k is the only reason made me hesitate of buying it (I don't even care about WiMAX), so please please Nokia.. anyone, same design but BETTER screen..um batterylife too when you are at it.
If I can get it for up to $40/month for unlimited internet, I'll get one (not even a Sprint Subscriber). But if they do that annoying $80/month thing, then I'll pass and just use a $40/month unlimited cell phone and bluetooth link it to a current N800 (or replacement).
way to go sprint. Tech fools don't understand the power of sprint. Jazzy looking phones with 10 Horsepower data are no match for Sprint. Do your research. ( for the money , sprint is the best )
